I’m aware of that, but all the slaves owned by the father of Cassius Clay the abolitionist, who the abolitionist Cassius Clay freed, were given the surname Clay, because they were owned by Clay senior. Clay was Ali’s slave name.

Ironic then that he would change his name from that of a slave owner to Muhammad given that Muhammad also was a slave owner.
