Epstein death.

The key issue in all this is not the age of consent in the state/country that it took place in nor the morality of a 40 or 50 year old having sex with someone much younger.  The age of consent debate needs a whole other conversation.

This case should be all about whether the women involved were deliberately groomed to have sex with Epstein and his friends.  It is about whether positions of power and authority were abused.  Finally It is about whether consent was freely given.

As Mojo has said there are similarities with the Rochdale grooming gangs, and there may also be connections with modern slavery and people trafficking.

Quite so. Exactly how I see it. The age of consent is a complete irrelevance and just a smokescreen really. It's all about whether vulnerable youngsters groomed by a revolting predator like Epstein can really be in a position to actually give their consent to have sex with older men they're probably meeting for the first time.

And all these grooming gangs like the lot in Rochdale and Epstein all have the same aim - to make young girls available for sex on command.

There is no "fundamental" difference at all.

The fundamental difference is that those hundreds of mostly muslim men of Pakistani and Bangladeshi origin; as well as the grooming, rape and other abuses were targeting a specific group, i.e. The organised exploitation of white girls (and some Sikh girls too, till the Sikh's sorted it themselves after being ignored by the authorities). Their crimes were racially-motivated hate crimes. Epstein's victims have hardly been ignored for decades like those in Rochdale, Rotherham, Oxford, Telford, Huddersfield, Manchester, Bradford, Leeds, Milton Keynes, Birmingham and other cities of the UK.

You ought to save some of your self-righteous moral indignation and outrage for Iran where there is no age limitations and little girl's are married-off to seventy year olds.

"You ought to save some of your self-righteous moral indignation and outrage" - dear me, you do love your hyperbole don't you....

So you think their crimes were racially and not sexually motivated. Well, we're all entitled to our opinions.

Not all the victims were white. They were picked up and groomed at places where youngsters gather. If you were to actually go to the places where this happened you would see that there are plenty of youngsters hanging out but very few, if any, young asian girls. Because they are subject to much stricter parenting.

It's a terrible thing to say but it was more a case of availability than anything else. Face it, a lot of parents, particularly in deprived areas, have no idea what their kids get up to.

@quilp Are you trying to say that the abuse of young girls by Asian men is worse than the abuse of young girls by rich white men?

Both are abhorrent.

Forced/arranged marriages are wrong but on exclusively a problem for Asian/Arab communities.

And again the age of consent should be part of a much wider discussion around the definition of adulthood.

Righto. It is not illegal in the UK for a bloke, regardless of his age, to have sex with a 17 year old male or female. This is legal and true regardless of your, or the sultana's subjective disgust.

Do you understand now? If you have an alternative suspicion about my motive for pointing this out- say so.

The issue isn’t just her age and whether she is above the age of consent but whether she consented to what is happening to her or was vulnerable and groomed into a situation she hadn’t consented to. The younger someone is the easier it is to manipulate them.

Being Prince Andrew is a tough job. It’s 1% inspiration, 0% perspiration, and 99% prevarication.

Then again today, somebody else wants their 15 minutes of fame. Bloody snowflake and absolute wimp. Why was that bloke so offended and why wait 6 years to say something. Band wagoning at it's worst. I actually feel sorry for Andrew.

Just a wild stab in the dark I know but with Air Miles Andy on the ropes you don't suppose that one of the hired help thought that the price for further dirt on him from the tabloids had topped out hence they'll never be a better time to cash in?

Being such a "snowflake", he should really avoid the sun in case he melts.

Poor guy, went to see Epstein to tell him he couldn’t be seen seeing him, stayed for four days because it was obviously the only convenient place to stay in the middle of New York, but hardly got to see him because of the railway station-like traffic of young ladies, except for that night when he was a guest at Epstein’s soirée to celebrate getting out of jail, and then got seen anyway. Poor bloke. Trouble is, he’s just too honourable.
