My brother bought a house, also advertised with river frontage, and is quite prepared to do his own flood precautions. He has installed air brick snorkels and has door flood prevention panels ready to be deployed over 4 flood entrances if he is in trouble. There is far too much expectation on the "government" to baby taxpayers than there should be anywhere in the UK.
