Has the sell off of British Industry begun?

So, here we are taking back control and one of the first acts after the election, selling off a major British company to Trump's USA. When they take those 10,000 jobs to the states, along with all of the sensitive technology, we will be another step closer to being a nobody in the industrial world!

Hardly a major British business.

Hardly major, and air to air refueling was invented by the Septics. Moreover Cobham covers a whole lot of service activities world wide than just exchange of fuel between aircraft.

In any case the big whinge from the Cobham family is no doubt pique because they undoubtedly thought they could screw more money from the private equity investor than the business was sold for.  Moreover a move such as this invariably involves cash and shares which will probably benefit the UK as a whole.

Yes, I'd say that makes them a major company? We recently lost GKN, and Cadbury amongst others to foreign ownership too, despite their board's protests, it seems that these companies are slowly being given away for some reason?

How many major companies are still in British ownership?

Cobham is a probably a major UK company even if it is small by international standards.

But the air to air refueling side is a small part of a much bigger whole.

Very few. The sell off started years ago.  But that's the nature of business. The first priority must be delivering shareholder value. Everything must come after that. As a shareholder I have never invested with any objective other than a return on my investment.
