So what are your very right wing opinions on Trident?

I would very much like to see it scrapped. While it remains it buys us NOTHING, it would only ever be used as part of an American action, and simply increases our value as a target. I would go one stage further.  I would like to see just quit NATO and invest in OUR security.  NATO was created as a mutual protection against a possible threat that ended decades ago.  The very real enemy that we face now is a fifth column that requires to be managed by a very much different response - and very soon.

Totally wrong. What you possess is the doubt. Will they/won't they...I recall we took nukes to the Falklands and I recall Israel breaking out the nukes...Will they/won't they...That is the value of the investment..

Bollocks.  Simply put.

If you pull the trigger first, it is not a deterrent and people are still going to die en mass on both sides.

If you retaliate, then the deterrent didn't work and people are still going to die en mass on both sides.

This is of course still ignoring the fact that Trident doesn't work:

So we are paying billions every year for "call my bluff"?

Which is funny seeing as the whole world knows that our nukes dont work and are more likely to land on us than the target.

Quote

A former Royal Navy officer who commanded nuclear armed submarines says the UK should scrap its independent nuclear deterrent Trident - and use the money saved on ships and submarines with conventional weapons.

Commander Robert Forsyth, who retired from the Royal Navy in 1980, claims Trident doesn't work, and isn't independent because it can only be used with US approval.

Between 1972-74 Cdr Forsyth  was second in command on HMS Repulse -which carried Trident's predecessor Polaris as its nuclear pay load - for four patrols, during one of which he was in charge because the commander was ill.   He was promoted to commander in 1974, and captained HMS Sceptre - a nuclear-powered but conventionally-armed hunter-killer submarine from 1977-79.
