But they're actually starting the process to build one in Malta.  There seems to be no idea so silly that somewhere won't try it if it involves giving lots of money to building firms.

Meanwhile in London, Crossrail has been delayed again and is expected to be three years behind the date it was expected to be up to a few months before it was supposed to open.  Big projects are so easy aren't they?

They complicate things unnecessarily. It's the Crossrail tech that's the big problem. The civil engineering infrastructure has largely been good to go for some time.

Yes, but it’s only 5 km, and there’s an island in the middle. Max sea depth 26m. It’s 42km from Jersey to Guernsey. And the lowest point is 100m. The drop to 50m within 5km of the Guernsey shore. That’s quite steep.

And the big one, it is not economically viable. Not hopeless on the same scale as a crossing to the Isle of Man, but still completely uneconomic.

I'd be surprised if the Gozitans fall for that "project". From experience, out of season Gozo is relatively quiet compared to Malta and I rather think they'd prefer to keep it that way.

But it's money that talks. Especially when it's taxpayers' money from elsewhere rained down by Brussels.

I can see the English building the tunnel to the Island. The Irish building the tunnel to there. Then road between the two being closed for a motorcycle race.

Brilliant!

Early contender for post of the year. So captures the Isle of Man.

Illuminated sign at Douglas portal: "At Race and Practice Times, International traffic, please follow signs for Kewaigue, Foxdale then Peel. Apologies for any delay."

Hilarious. Similarly, will the tunnel(s) be closed if there is a light mist at the exit, or a small puddle develops in the nadir.

The possibilities are endless...how about a glass-roofed and walled tunnel at that, so that our horse-drawn visitors could gaze out and admire the over-dredged seafloor wasteland of the Irish Sea.

Engrossing games of spot the scallop and hunt the herring to while away the journey. Count how many Manx trawlers are left in their own waters.
