"Most material can either be recycled or disposed of". Well naturally, what other options are there? 😂 And how can the Marina possibly be silting up now when bikes are banned from being ridden by kiddies at Rushen Mines?

At huge expense to the taxpayer, involving Jimmy Cubbon's operation and a big hole in the ground on previous agricultural land behind Peel Power Station?
GreyWolf
Peel Marina does look nice but unfortunately it’s was just another vanity cock up project driven by the few who were told of it failings from the beginning but those driving it had there blinkers on. It would be an interesting stat to see all the costs overall since it was built and send a journalist to go back to the drivers of the project for they opinions. Costs will go on up forever for very little return, it probably been easier to extend the Peel pier or put a loch system in possibly further back up the river to catch the heavy sediment earlier maybe ( thinking out of the box). I still think Port Erin would have made the best Marina. Edited March 18, 2023 by GreyWolf 4
Roxanne
Hazel Hannan said this when it was only being talked about. She was fully committed to it not going ahead and said it would end up costing us a fortune and would ruin the character of Peel. She got a really hard time for it too. I think the marina has changed Peel. At one time it had the cheapest houses on the Island and not many places to eat. Now the prices are astronomical and the town is overrun with places to eat. Has it improved? It’s busier for sure but I’m not even sure that is a good thing. Anyway, she was right.

I cut through Ballawattleworth for the first time in a while a couple of days ago and was surprised at the number of houses that were either for sale or had sold on their sale boards, there seems to be a considerable turnover in there. It's also looking extremely run down, then again most/all Dandara estates look shabby in no time.
Omobono
there is a huge gravel bank that has been built up just below what was Manx marine , if the river had been designed to run in a spill way against the south side of the harbour All the silt would have been washed out to sea and would not finish up in the marina and the marina could have been toped up by the tide , Very poor design with a mega expensive dredging and maintenance cost , I wonder what happened to the suction dredger and half a mile of reinforced heavy duty rubber pipe the department purchased as the ultimate solution , another expensive failure No doubt we will be spending millions bringing over a specialist dredging company soon , someone needs to ask what the income from the yachts and boats bring , and how much it costs to maintain , another financial disaster you can bet , but lessons have been learned but have they ?

Non-Believer
Just now, Omobono said: I wonder what happened to the suction dredger and half a mile of reinforced heavy duty rubber pipe the department purchased as the ultimate solution Now then......there was a "story" doing the rounds a couple of years ago about this, to the effect that the power of the suction dredger far outstripped the structural strength of the rubber hosing and its metal connectors that it was connected to. When the pump was switched on and run up, the strength of the suction was such that it collapsed the hose and connectors... Said above "story" came from a man who was involved in the operation... About £130,000 a year (with other costs coming off that). Dwarfed by the cost of dredging.

What happened about the 'regeneration' scheme for Michael Street? Is the money still available? I remember a meeting in the Corrin Hall and some locals weren't very keen.
