do we send patients to london and manchester ?

No idea.

Taken from IoM airport website:

"In response to the COVID19 Pandemic and in line with Emergency Powers, ALL persons arriving onto the Isle of Man MUST be in possession of a Letter of Exemption issued by the Government Chief Secretary.

Any person arriving on the Isle of Man without a Letter of Exemption, will be refused entry and will be required to return to their point of origin at their own expense.

We currently have a limited schedule of services, which is in place to support patient and key worker transfers. Outbound flights are available for booking by any person wishing to leave the island, however, return travel is currently restricted to those persons who are in possession of a Letter of Exemption issued by the Isle of Man Government’s Chief Secretary. Letters are issued via official channels, and if you are eligible, this will be processed on your behalf by the appropriate sponsor.  Please DO NOT contact either the Airport, or the Chief Secretary’s Office for information regarding Letters of Exemption.

Flights are currently operating as follows:

Isle of Man to London Heathrow 6 x weekly operated by British Airways (bookable via www.ba.com)

Isle of Man to Liverpool 12 x weekly operated by Loganair (bookable via www.loganair.co.uk)

Isle of Man to Manchester 6 x weekly operated by Loganair (bookable via www.loganair.co.uk)"

Looks like you can leave if you can find a flight.

cheers folks, we have no intention of leaving but were wondering because it all seemed very unclear. Thank you.

From reading your initial post it looked as though you were wanting to get rid of the missus for a few days.... nice try. ;)

If they got thete act together , as flights could be through the roof , they could promote holidays here big time .  Will they ? Doubt it as by the time they have drafted up whatever they dream up and get a plan together it will be to late .

I wonder what the government's plan will be for tourism will be after all this is an over? Flat out promotion of next year's TT?

Outdoor pursuits to city folk could be a laugh.

A scutch of us just had a stroll along the prom in Douglas.  Very busy and pleasing to see.

But one striking thing is the number of hotels. All closed. All missing their prime income season.

The biggest challenge for government, in relation to tourism is how they help that industry.

Tourist accommodation makes up about 0.2% of GDP and sadly a lot of those hotels are dives. Anyone with decent tourist accommodation or holiday cottages will do ok out of local staycations. But nobody is going to do a staycation in some grotty hotel up Mona Drive or Hutchinson Square when they have a nice house to stay in only a few miles away. Government should just incentivize some of those businesses to shut down or give them grants to redevelop them into flats. In terms of their contribution to GDP it hardly even registers so it wouldn’t be a lot of money.
