It creates a two tier system. Who benefits? The economic benefit is very little. As for paying for the police, have actual criminals booked the day off? Gary Roberts claimed we would have turf wars during the pandemic as rival local gangs fought to gain valuable land to peddle their wares. He's totally out of touch with reality. What we need is some proper invasive gangs on a contract. They come in, sweep out all the local low level gangs and the system is flusher clean. Then we just pay them a protection payment each year for their services.

The off-road bikers only come over here to ride because they're not permitted to tear up their own countryside with the same freedom. They should definitely be paying towards rectifying the damage they do, or simply not be permitted to do it in the first place. The same should apply to local riders. 4

2112
As reported by the Nations Propaganda Mouthpiece this morning, the Council of Ministers have decreed that there will be no more cruise liners to the island this year. There were 2 more visits due. They further said, they HOPE they return next year. Perhaps IOMG prefer classic car enthusiasts to cruise liner passengers? Classic car enthusiasts who get preferential treatment of day long road closures, and police escorted laps around the TT course. Only on this island where our idiots openly whinge about attracting tourists. they throw more obstacles and hoops, or implement double standards. Perhaps all the passengers are Covid ridden? Visitors are visitors. It’s money coming in. Car people tend to big spenders. The rally teams all stay in hotels and eat in the restaurants. The supercar club that comes over at the start of TT will drop about 50 grand into the economy over that weekend. I’ll be bringing at least 30 Porsche over in May 2022. Doubtless the Festival of Motoring will be back next September. Cruise passengers aren’t, contrary to folklore, big spenders. But conversely, there has at some point got to be a big ‘carbon reset’ which will impact on motor vehicle visits. The Island might well steal a march on some sort of sustainable tourism, or it might find itself increasingly more isolated. its a tough one to call

Whatever is spent on cruise liner facilities here, will the taxpayers ever see a return? However the same goes for the classic car enthusiasts here this week. Granted the police have sold themselves for commercial gain as they are skint, at the expense of the well being and protection of islanders. Are the classic car enthusiasts paying a premium for a police escort TT escapade, a road closure or two for private hill climbs? If the Sloc was closed for a Rally which was part of a Championship event, it’s a different story.

There is a current trend towards staycations. The only adapting to the trend that I have noticed is a big hike in holiday rental prices. If the Sloc was closed for a Rally which was part of a Championship event, it’s a different story. The cops have long charged out private cost policing. I actually formalised a lot of it many years ago as it wasn’t alway clear what we did and didn’t charge for. So for example if a film company wanted some assistance with traffic management by way of a couple of officers, they’d pay for it. Escorts are the same.
