The Apple AirTag becomes part of a network which includes most iPhones. So @trmpton's lost handbag or purse will ping any iPhone nearby and they will be able to watch it on a map (assuming their iPhone wasn't also in the bag). Similar Android compatible devices such as the Tile only ping other people who are running the Tile app. So typically those things will only tell you where you last had it. Apple have scored a hit with these things.

Just an iCloud account which you can access from any web browser on any device. edit - actually you might to set them up. Google it. They are brilliant little devices. We have them in wallets, purses, cars, motorbikes and pushbikes, school bags etc Edited June 15, 2021 by trmpton

That's great if your dog heads for a populated area with lots of people with iPhones. Useless if it heads for the woods, beach, hills etc. You want a GPS tracker for animals. Not Bluetooth. 🐕🐶🐾

Gladys
I would be quite pleased if my two old gals ran away, rather than the arthritic snuffling along a line of very interesting scent that they currently do.

Manxman27
I've got tiles on my son's school bags. if he loses his PE Kit that's £100 gone! I'm going to look in to airtags next time I need to track something.
Declan
I suppose what feels creepy is that you are also tracking the kid. Or at least it has the potential to be used that way.
