To actually be arrested for “causing someone anxiety” by making a post on social media is frankly ridiculous.

Clinging to how a police officer misspoke in regard to the law (which they do, all the time) to detract from the law (which isn't that you can't do anything that can cause a person anxiety online) is daft.

The older generation were brought up with quotes, name calling etc which would be totally unacceptable these days.   Some of these sayings would probably offend in fact definately would offend these days but it has all got out of hand and there are serious crimes that are getting shelved to deal with he said this and she said that the case in question between Mrs Rooney and Mrs Vardy and the publicity it got was crazy.   The lawyers got a nice bit of work out of it but considering the serious situation that is surrounding world peace atm it just baffles me.

But the Vardy/Rooney case was a civil one, wasn't it?

The Rooney-Vardy case wasn't about name calling or offence - it was about Vardy leaking private information about Rooney. Then not liking it when Rooney made that public. You're right it never should have got to court, Vardy shouldn't have sued but there were ridiculous libel cases in the olden days too.

The police and courts weren't going to be working on world peace in the absence of that case.
