About the most creative and fanciful interpretation of recent events imaginable.

Some folks are not so sure. Mainly because nobody should ever trust Johnson:

It was the language of “should” rather than “must”. Asked why the PM hadn’t used the full might of his powers, Johnson replied: “We’re a mature, grown-up liberal democracy.”

Others speculated that he was thinking about an insurance industry that would be liable for big bills if businesses could say they were shut by government diktat.

Boris is only interested in the market. If Healthcare was a private market, he would be all over this like a fly on shit.

What will come out of this is an insistence on his part that a private healthcare system will generate additional hospital capacity, and prevent anything like this ever happening again. And voters will eat that up because they'll have lived through the biggest health scare in living memory.

Until the next one ....

I might be speculating somewhat but you wouldn't be of the opinion socialism would help us ride this through a lot better would you?

No, you're making the same "everyone has to be left or right leaning" mistake that people make anytime there's a post that criticises a specific action. This is why we dont have a centre ground in politics anymore.

Well they will speculate, of course, as they always do, but this has been comprehensively debunked today with the revelation that only a tiny minority of businesses have trade interruption cover in any case.

Clearly, comprehensive public sector support for business will have to follow later today, otherwise there will be no economy to argue about once this is over. Even the insurance industry would be overwhelmed by the sheer scale of the calamity. It needs to be a holding position as with the banking bail out but for the wider economy. It should not, of course, cover fat cat salaries for anyone in industry. If this does not happen it will be total folly, and I will be the first to join you in criticism.

Why don't you lead the way. It would be helpful if you took more of a centre, impartial ground on this instead of the clear bias you showed in your post above.

I'm sorry, I don't think I made myself clear here.

There is no way to lead on this, because the right think you're a leftie and the left think you're a Nazi. Schism in politics, been going on a few years, thought you might have noticed.

Agreed. However you are playing right into it with your initial comment about Boris and his chums.

You can have a socialist viewpoint and not have a main party that you feel serves your ideology no? I imagine many in the UK feel this at the moment.

Your post was clearly about would a socialist government handle this crisis any better?

Undoubtedly, unlike a tory government obviously, they would not have run down the NHS and Social Care over the last ten years.

Exactly. You can have an opinion about something that is unlikely to happen. I still hanker after a filthy night with Jennifer Lopez but I'm resigned to thinking that ship has maybe sailed.

Take it from me she's overrated.

Nice try Teflon but your true blue colours always .shine through.

So what do you think about having a totally amoral narcissistic serial philanderer and inveterate liar as our actual Prime Minister during this crisis? Personally I think he's completely out of his depth.
