UK Covid figures for 18/01 show 37,535 new infections and 599 Covid-related deaths although there is the usual weekend collating-lag to be taken into account, tomorrow's figures will update.

Wee Krankie extends Scotland's lockdown period until mid-February over fears of further virus spread. Including a "significant outbreak" on the Isle of Barra.

Schools and nursery premises to remain closed until mid-February pending review on 2nd Feb.

Sir Patrick Vallance appears to be advocating a longer, harder lockdown during interview this morning, also appears to be quite critical of UK (and other Western) Govts inconsistent approaches to dealing with the virus. With UK toll approaching 100,000 he may have a point....

UK figures for 21/01. 37,892 new infections with a further 1290 Covid-related deaths. Total deaths now 94,580.

PHE suggest that cases are falling due to lockdown however.

Northern Ireland extends lockdown until 5th March with 100,000 reported infections.

Interesting UK Covid stats just been released tonight (Sky News).

Only 17% of those developing symptoms present themselves for a test.

Only 4 out of 10 confirmed cases complete their full isolation period. Economic pressures at least partly blamed for this.

Met Police announce that they've broken up a wedding party in Stamford Hill, Greater London being held in defiance of restrictions in a school that had had the windows draped from the inside to try and disguise. As many as 400 guests reported as having been dispersed, some with fixed penalty notices issued. Organiser could face a £10k fine.

Apparently members of the local Orthodox Jewish community, local Rabbi condemns. Previous Rabbi died of Covid in April 2020.

All working well this.
