mojomonkey
Not sure what points people are trying to score here. I wish anyone (regardless of their colour, political views, religious views, etc.) who contracts the virus a speedy recovery.

Obviously over time there can be some degree of flexibility - perhaps around antibody testing and some sort of ID carding. And possibly the Army could be used in a way which the civilian police would not be comfortable with. And a place like the IOM should be able to open up internally whilst keeping external borders tightly shut. Anything else would be irresponsible. Many of the economic arguments are entirely bogus. Well Omar Salem, the mouthy parent just happened to be there? OK possibly so, but the fact that he just happens to be the founder of a pressure group demanding that the NHS is rebuilt sorta puts into question if it was purely serendipitous and when it turns out he is an occasional newspaper columnist of less than unbiased newspapers it does raise a whole lot of questions. Then there's the almost perfect recording of his every word. Hard to see the hidden microphone though. No proof other than the quality of the sound track. Well, there are the economic arguments, but the main problem would be societal damage. As people increasingly get cabin fever there will be growing mental issues, and it will become a pressure cooker ready to burst. More and more people over time simply would not put up with it and demand a progressive relaxation of the emergency measures. By then there should be considerable herd immunity around the country and hopefully the peak in hospital admissions will have been passed so that there will be a steady flow of further hospitalisations rather than a surge. It was at least very dubious the way it was blown up, although Johnson did deal with it badly. He isn't good with when put on the spot and called to deal with something in the moment. Nobody emerged with credit.

Always willing to see a conspiracy rather than a coincidence? . His daughter was seriously ill. Johnson turned up. He had a verbal go. Johnson had his usual coterie of minders and journos. Of course it was picked up. May turned up when I was in the middle of an 11 week stay in Royal Liverpool. Unfortunately she bypassed my side ward, or she might have been subjected to the same. She also had minders and journos in tow.
