Presumably safety would have been part of the deliberations of the planners when they gave their approval to the plans. So... did the planners make a mistake? Were Manx Care (or whoever) lax in not opposing the original plans?

They weren't my deliberations, they were the Planning Department's who had input from Highways etc. Ambulances shouldn't be affected, they turn off before that and the only patients that could be affected will be at Palatine. In fact if they do block off access I could see things being worse as visitors park on the parking and roads on the Hospital side to walk to the new building. The only argument the DHSC seem to be putting forward is that it is "due to the increased traffic" since planning permission was granted, but there's no evidence given that the current level is now dangerous or even increased other than Hooper's assertion. One thing that may hint as a reason is that the Commissioners will have to buy the land to build the road off the DHSC. Can some 'clever' civil servant be thinking they will be 'making' money on this. Even though the further increase in rates will hit all Braddan ratepayers, including the Hospital etc.

And lots are qualified nurses etc who are probably grateful for the extra money especially as salaries and therefore hourly rate was increased an average of 10/11% recently. This solely lies at the door of Braddan Commissionere. Edited February 8 by Hairy Poppins

Probably cheaper than expensive litigation.
Fred the shred
The only patients that will be affected will be Palatine…completely wrong there is the DATSU and other conditions that have a surgery, very busy, that this traffic will pass. There is little hope of getting a parking space now . The buildings there are in full use. How it ever got considered in the first place is a puzzlement unless a certain person was trying to keep the Braddan voters sweet at the time. To build something this big without any independent access is sheer madness now somehow it is all Manx Cares fault. Overtime, over budget and a blot on the horizon this will be a cross the ratepayers of Braddan will have to bear for long years.
