Latest on debacle, Howie hadn’t done risk assessment!!

Well, colour me shocked!   Mind you, I suspect Roger would say that this is irrelevant - if a previous minister made a decision we should just accept it, despite the clear deficiencies in his due diligence at the time.

From the very outset, as per the OP of this thread, the cost was going to be @ £7M.

That’s wrong. At the outset it was to cost £4million. Still scandalous for a parish pump council the size of Braddan.

Then they spent on plans, architects, engineers, quantity surveyors, drew a tender spec, bill of quantities, went to tender. Wasn’t cheap.

Tender came back at £7million.

But by then they were in for several hundred thousands and no one had the wit to say no, or back out, or were afraid of looking foolish by wasting so much and nothing to show, or were caught rabbit like in the head lights and unable to move.

Another case of, "We've spent so much now that we may as well carry on"? Where did they think that the money would come from, or was that not a consideration?

Would all of the elected had this mindset though, was there no opposition? And what of the ratepayers opinions?

Of course Howie’s letter doesn’t really refer to the access road suitability. Just parking congestion.

It was up to DoI Highways. And of course Braddan, and their legal advisers, both when they bought and before they committed to build, should have obtained a proper access easement signed and recorded in the land registry.

The fact there isn’t one, apparently, in the deed by which they bought, 20+ years ago, indicates that access to the site was only ever going to be from the public Highway.

Thats just a letter of support. Not an access agreement. He just says that access will be via the hospital estate roads, which is what the submitted plans showed.

I strongly dispute the statement that this permissible has been challenged on a whim.   Patients safety has to come first .   This fiasco is down pure and simple to the lack of planning and foresight of Braddan Commissioners.   If anything is to be labeled a whim it is the whole sorry conception of a pie in the sky community hub that is going to cost the ratepayers of Braddan dearly now and for years to come.

Did I just hear Jessop on the radio saying he did rate payers a solid by only increasing rates by 36.5% and not putting up by 100% as he was told to

More handwringing, buck passing and bullshit galore. It’s a shame these parish pump commissioners can’t be surcharged, or IOMG couldn’t take action against them. Voting them out is a necessity, unless IOMG can get involved, and take over, placing temporary commissioners until elections?

Not going to happen as they’ve not done anything illegal or fraudulent just incompetence and the ratepayers voted them in so we’re stuck with them unless they resign.

Waiting to hear when the requisition meeting is, should be a lively affair!

To think one of the original reasons for the Roundhouse, was a) Braddan Commissioners Corporate Headquarters, and b) A meeting place where events like Requisition Meetings and Election Hustings could be held. It would be cheaper to use Union Mills Memorial Hall.

But they are just parish pump commissioners. Look at the screw-ups the IoM gov. has managed to create - and they have the backing of a huge Civil Service staffed by a large number of highly experienced, highly paid, individuals.

The IoM gov. is not in a position to criticise them.

[The CS who should have said something about this project at the outset]
