Who owns the site - is it Douglas or is it the gov.?

From a money point of view is it better to keep the site and put into the annual accounts as a value of £X million, rather than admit that the site is unsellable and has zero value?

It’s IOM Government.

I don't get why Government hold onto all these sites when they can't spend money on them. Why don't they sell them off? Chester Street, Park Road, Summerland, Quarter bridge, Prison, Albert Road, St Thomas, Chester Street, Fairfield etc.

they are terrified that someone else will make money where they have failed and show them up.

Fair tho', with the unstable cliff face it is a difficult site to sell or develop??? Maybe when Dandara get desperate?

But if the stables have to be demolished, not desperate yet?

It’s got MDC written all over it.

MDC has already announced it is considering the site, but still need to overcome the £1m rock stabilisation problem. I think they want the taxpayer to pay directly and provide them with a 'secure' site. As opposed to the taxpayer paying indirectly and MDC carrying the risk of failure of the cliff face

“rather than relying on temporary centres set up in currently unused buildings“

Err, that’s exactly what they did.

Not really, though perhaps I could have been more precise.  Both Airport and Chester Street ended up with semi-permanent internal structures (skirting boards!) rather than using the sort of mobile screening and furniture that suffices at most vaccination clinics.  This meant both needed a fair bit of work doing before the vaccination campaign could begin there (they had to start it off up the Hospital) and Chester Street needed more just to make it remotely habitable - and not enough given the latest cries that they 'have to have' a new one.

If you look how mass vaccination was done anywhere else, they simply used large open venues currently not used because of pandemic restrictions: sports halls, community centres, even cathedrals.  It was only because the DoI wanted to run things there way that we ended up with the farce we did in unsuitable venues.

Meanwhile the DHSC is beating it's collective chest and making terrible threats:

The DHSC are asking the public not to drive on the private hospital road to access the Roundhouse, but instead use pedestrian access.

There will be no physical barriers in place, but relevant signage will be installed in the coming days and we may monitor access.

Vehicular access to the site is only permitted for contractors and Braddan Commissioners staff. If access is being abused we may take further action.

"Relevant signage"!  I hope you're all trembling.  No doubt the DHSC is currently recruiting its own army[1] to enforce its iron will.

[1]  You just know that Gef is going to refer to them as Hooper's Troopers.  And try to sell t-shirts.

People will ignore any signs unless there’s enforcement like they do with yellow lines outside hospital now!
