so how many people have we had test positive for covid since the start of the year ? and how many have had stroke events ?   that boy talks some shit.

Just because we haven't heard about anyone having stroke events doesn't mean they haven't happened. Medical confidentiality and all that.

Covid isn't just a respiratory disease. It also affects the circulatory and nervous systems. While not always causing stroke, in many people it thickens the blood which results in clots. Some clots reach the brain, some reach the lungs, some don't cause major issues.

I've posted articles in this thread which talk about these issues in relation to death as well as long-covid, but I don't have time to search them out right now. Sorry.

Well it’s over a 1000 positive, there’s no one in hospital and the 2 who died had major underlying health issues so with Covid not because.

I know 2 who were in hospital & both had underlying respiratory health issues so had problems breathing, both seem fine now.

Accepted, but at the price she calculated there’s a £31.25 margin for fixed and overhead costs. I’d be surprised if that much can be attributed to each test, I’d be very surprised if it was more than £50 as claimed by DA

As the biggest cost is invariably staff the £50 figure looks suspiciously like it was plucked out of thin air to save all those difficult sums that would then be open to challenge.

I would certainly like to know how the cost of testing on entry went from £50 for two tests to £150 for three tests.

Show ALL working!

so they can tell you how many people have covid, how many people died of covid ( allegedly,  as now it suits to say with covid rather than from covid to help the figures )  but not how many people have had stroke events related to covid ?  where does the confidential medical part  actually kick in ???   my guess is when the numbers don't suit the states mantra.

That may well be the case, be we don't really know. The point is that calculating the actual cost from the point of the decision being taken to test someone by 111, through actually taking the test, the cost of PPE etc, the cost of processing the test in the lab, the pro-rata share of fixed costs (buildings, equipment etc), and then the administrative function of getting the results out would actually be quite complicated, and for no real benefit. It is easy to calculate a meaningless figure, but to what end?

It’s important because they are providing tests privately as well as for public health purposes. They do pre travel PCR as well as incoming traveller PCR.  Private testing, like private medicine, should not be subsidised by the state.

Ive worked with public bodies which traded. They didn’t have a clue about staffing, property or utility costs. It gave a wholly artificial view of the viability of the trading. Added to which all stock was carried on the books at cost. Some stock was clearly unsaleable. Writing it off would have caused a loss.

You get the idea.

Doesn't the word, 'emergency' give an indication of, 'urgency'?

Aren't we now, hopefully at the end of lockdown and with the acceleration of vaccinations, some way away from the emergency stage?

Why are we doing this a year after when we really needed it?

One requirement, one only. Transparency. Publish the data upon which decisions are based  in as near real time as possible. Then there can be meaningful debate, and decision making can be held to account

TBH, John, one would have hoped for that all along from Comin.

Exactly.

Thing is... reading the advert it seems that common sense is not a prerequisite for applying, only "individual specialisms, or accumulated professional standing in relevant fields." need apply.

Which is what they said they would do at March Tynwald in time for it to go to April's Tynwald, along with a simplified exit strategy and details of who makes up this committee. None of these details are on the April Tynwald Order Paper...

They’re looking for CoMin sense, not common sense

They'll not do it until there is no other option. They will fob us off with so called 'frameworks' as they allow the goalposts to be moved. Let's hope one the journos pushes him for answer tonight. I have an awful fear no one will. Might as well just replay last Thursday breifing if not as no one will be able to tell the difference
