It’s important because they are providing tests privately as well as for public health purposes. They do pre travel PCR as well as incoming traveller PCR.  Private testing, like private medicine, should not be subsidised by the state.

Ive worked with public bodies which traded. They didn’t have a clue about staffing, property or utility costs. It gave a wholly artificial view of the viability of the trading. Added to which all stock was carried on the books at cost. Some stock was clearly unsaleable. Writing it off would have caused a loss.

You get the idea.

I agree that the NHS should not subsidise Private care. To that end they should calculate the cost. However, it isn’t a straightforward calculation and Dr G’s calculation was simplistic to say the least. Given the relatively low numbers and the Public Health benefits, they would probably be better in my view, to just do all the tests on the NHS. Doubtless there would be critics of that, and they have taken a different route. They have estimated the cost and thereby avoided the administrative burden of calculating it. As you say, they are providing a private service, and as such, the pricing of it is up to them.

Can add to that "WELL Good Afternoon"  and Hetty gushing at DA for an incredible thorough answer.

Well it’s over a 1000 positive, there’s no one in hospital and the 2 who died had major underlying health issues so with Covid not because.

I know 2 who were in hospital & both had underlying respiratory health issues so had problems breathing, both seem fine now.

There have been FOUR covid related deaths during this lockdown, not two.

The first was announced on Friday 12 March. This was when they were still using the "of covid" terminology. News release.

Quote

A patient at Noble’s Hospital has died of COVID-19.

It is the first death from the virus in the Isle of Man since 5 November 2020. It takes the total number of people to have lost their lives to the virus on the Island to 26.

The second death was announced on Friday 26 March. This was the first and only time they used the "with covid" terminology. News release.

It takes the total number of people who have lost their lives while suffering from the virus on the Island to 27. Whilst the person had COVID-19, it was not the primary cause of death.

The third and fourth deaths were announced on Sunday 28 March. These two were framed as dying from covid. News release.

Two patients at Noble’s Hospital have died from COVID-19.

It takes the total number of people who have lost their lives while suffering from the virus on the Island to 29.

So not only did you decrease the death toll by half, you also incorrectly insisted that the two deaths you did acknowledge died with, rather than from, when we only know for sure that only one died with.

Attention to detail surely isn't your amongst your strengths.

Wasn't this group going to be set up a year ago, then we were told it was not needed.  Now we are coming out of the emergency phase, it is now being set up?

It’s already set up & headed by Greehow & Magson with other government employees on it. I think Thomas asked back in January who was in it & what advice given, minutes etc.

Ashford took 2 months to admit no minutes & its stacked with insiders, Tynwald instructed external representative but as everyone has pointed out its a bit late!! By the time they appoint a mate it will be June

Apologies, all have been mentioned previously as underlying health issues as many were last year, Ashford did say they were going to redo stats showing those who died with & of COVID but hasn’t been done yet.
It was clarified that the most recent ones were with Covid & the  media statements were usual scaremongering headlines

Should redo UK statistics as well.

If a meeting wasn't minuted in the Civil Service then there was no meeting.

Three levels as far as I know, Bronze, Silver & (of course) GOLD Command. All in line with UK Emergency Services with some aspects drawn from the military (which is hardly surprising given the Chief Secretary's background in the MOD).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold–silver–bronze_command_structure

And that's it. Any specialisms required will drawn on from whatever the UK has in place, except for Manx solutions for Manx problems. After that it's down to the politicians.

Do you mean the two deaths announced on 28 March? When did they amend the info to say they died with rather than from?

I don't recall this happening. Do you have a link?

From IOM GOV site

A patient at Noble’s Hospital has died with COVID-19.

It takes the total number of people who have lost their lives while suffering from the virus on the Island to 27. Whilst the person had COVID-19, it was not the primary cause of death.

In future, deaths will be split to show where COVID-19 was the primary cause of death. The existing data will be amended to reflect this to ensure a consistent approach to reporting.

As I say not sure if the data has been changed to show split yet .
