Nobody, here or anywhere else had experienced this sort of thing before so everyone was doing what they thought was the right thing. After a while, experience allowed changes to the restrictions to be made. Hopefully, we’ll be better prepared for the next one when it comes. Except, If he has those problems, which I’m not doubting: the custody sergeant will have had him examined by the Force Medical Examiner, on arrival in Custody post arrest. That’s to check if he’s fit to be detained/questioned. the custody sergeant will have called in an appropriate adult to safeguard and ensure he understood why he’s been arrested. the custody sergeant and the appropriate adult will have tried to persuade him to take duty advocate legal advice, either face to face, zoom live link, or phone at court there will have been a duty advocate, either by videolink or in person. Not forgetting ( short term memory apart ) there were announcements on the boat and leaflets handed out, and he’d have had to apply for an entry number/certificate, before travel, which again set it all out. Plus booking testing at the Grandstand. The court procedures changed at various stages. The politicos were forced into dealing with an unprecedented situation with life-threatening consequences. Which I'm sure is not something they originally signed up for. So from the start they were slowly feeling their way forward learning from the best available experiences and taking the best scientific advice. Now it's very obvious, hopefully even to the likes of yourself, that the geography of being a small island should be utilised to it's maximum advantage in keeping the population safe from the virus. So they closed the borders, a very very obvious first step, except for the essential movement of goods and key people. Eventually these rules were relaxed somewhat in that folks that met certain criteria could travel across and back as long as in doing so they would quarantine themselves on arrival to protect islanders from the virus they could be carrying. This self-isolation element was vitally important as not to do so would totally nullify the advantage of being a small island and increase the risk of the virus getting a foothold here. It could then work it's way through the populace including the most vulnerable and we all know just how brutal it can be when it gets into somewhere like Abbotswood. So to reinforce the message on just how very important self-isolation is they brought in quite harsh measures that hopefully should give even the fuckwit factor pause for thought before doing something really really irresponsible and stupid. Unfortunately it would appear that the quite harsh measures to back up the self-isolation message were simply not harsh enough. Over 90 irresponsible idiots were caught breaking the rules and quite rightly convicted for selfishly and stupidly putting the lives of others at risk. They deserved everything they got... Personally I thought the "convoy" to the Comis was pure theatre. "Look what your government are doing to protect you!" was the loud and clear message. The admin does not like any challenge to his views whatsoever. So, all he gets is like-minded people echoing his opinions. He also considers himself a journalist, but I bet he has never handled a reporter's pad in his life. Whereas here, anonymous knobs post nonsense and other anonymous knobs disagree.
