Vaccjnate the elderly, care staff & extremity vulnerable then allow the rest of us to crack on. The risk to those below pension age is incredibly small. The country has been literally scared to death. I’m not dismissive of the virus, I believe it’s a nasty little bugger for a lot of people BUT not the majority who’s futures & livelihoods have been gradually strangled & destroyed. Yes ... I’m a lone voice in an ocean of bed wetting. I might even die of this thing, who knows ... but it’s what I truly believe. I know a couple of people below pension age who have nearly died. One was 60 years old, fit, thin and non smoker who had 2 months in ITU and some of that on a ventilator. He's now home, and luckily all his organs seem to be working, but doubt he'll work as a builder again as no energy. Another is 62 and had covid last March. He has Asthma, but very fit and healthy apart from that. He had a spell on a ventilator, and was off work for 6 months. He's now back, but very low on energy and keeps getting pains in his arm and hand, and the doctors think he's suffered some minor brain damage. Personally, i think we need to vaccinate 50 and above before we drop border restrictions. 3

Get things moving again and if people want to shield until they get a vaccine that's their shout. Set a system up where those who want to do that get priority on the vaccine lists so they don't have to wait to long

Edge saying we need to look at sensible ways to get to 3A, and even Howard admitting elimination is a short term strategy. Glimmers emerging of a realisation that all being locked up and eliminating the virus is unsustainable. Hopefully more will follow, although any mention of relaxing borders at all is still met by huge resistance by those who don't see any benefit to free(is, still with restrictions and isolation and testing) but seem incapable of actually looking at the risk level and seeing that there is virtually none if its done properly. The Chief
As last time, i just want a cohesive easing of restrictions based on whats best for the public based on sound science and public health advice for all residents on the whole of the island, same with border restrictions. Here's hoping.

Why wouldn't we? And learn from this and next time lockdown more quickly but for a shorter time Edited January 21, 2021 by horatiotheturd

Correct, but it was the "percentage" occupancy - as in how many of our available beds for patients have an actual patient in them. It was not an accurate description as some beds are obviously kept separately for specialities (such as Cardiac beds or SCBU) and some Consultants wanted 'their' beds kept in separate wards to 'prevent infections' (or being used by other Consultant's patients). Of course there were overspill areas like PPU which has lost us the 20 beds there, for what has it been 18 months and staff redeployed, and of course Ward 20. However adult patient beds at the moment should be easy to work out, if they want the number to be known that is. There are enough people working and then meeting on it every day ! As for staff, well the problems there in my opinion have largely been self created. I think most reasonable people would be appalled at some of the reasons behind staff leaving during the last few years or so, and the great recruitment drive unfortunately hasn't really provided all we need. We have lost some excellent staff, nursing and medical, some of whom were specialist nurses in their own right. Still, treat people in the hospital environment in some of the ways that Nobles has and they will walk, and not come back in a crisis some of them. 1

No baby steps this time I hope. I'll wager we don't get it though.

When Guernsey had their community cases and Howie shut airbridge they didn’t lockdown, Jersey have lots more cases and schools open with non essential shops opening Monday. We have a plan saying lockdown if 25 community cases and then panic as soon as we get 10/15 and completely lockdown instead. Absolute shambles.

I can understand why there was panic as it seemed like it was going to run out of control. I understand that, however it didn't and now clearly hasn't. Therefore back to business as usual straight away.

There is talk of furlough being extended past April, quite simply a lot of people on furlough in the UK don't have jobs to go back to.
