We’ve done incredibly well through a combination of geography, a relatively small population per land mass, compliance, relatively quick decision making & a fair chunk of luck.

I can agree to the geography and luck.

Outside of that there is a lot of back slapping and hand clapping (Major Tom tonight at 6pm apparently) that seems to be getting a little over the top, given the costs we have, and will continue, to bear.

The continued use of 'thanks' at the press conferences starts to sound a bit repetitive now and has lost some of its sincerity. We all did the best we can, even sometimes wrongly. There is still someways to go. And those costs are still piling up.

Looking at the way the U.K. is ploughing through their vaccination programme I don’t believe it’s within the realms of fantasy that we might be moving ‘relatively’ freely off and back on Island post Easter, certainly by the end of May.

Those bloody selfish people wanting their two weeks in the sun might just get it you know ....

If the current timetable here for vaccination for the over 50's is kept to then it is more likely to be the end of June.

The problem with your two weeks in the sun is which countries will allow you in, Spain was talking about not allowing tourists until the autumn, perhaps a fortnight in sunny Morecambe

Spain May say that but the fact of s that French & other tourists are traveling to Madrid now as museums, bars , restaurants etc still open albeit only until 9pm. Pressure is on there as well to save jobs

Actually no. See attached for Spanish inward intra EU travel. Restaurants are open 07.30-09.30 and 13.00-15.30 in most provinces and closed in the evenings. And at present you are only able to stay within your municipality.

Not in Madrid, bars etc open until 9pm , article in El Pais this week on large numbers of French visiting, Madrid Mayor said we are keeping hospitality open to protect jobs.

Yes you can’t drive from Valencia to Madrid but you can fly into any airport.

We have lots of friends in Alicante area and bars etc are completely closed there but still Europeans flying in daily to go to holiday homes as warmer.

It looks more promising each day. Those bloody selfish people wanting their two weeks in the sun might just get it you know ....

Provided we don't start seeing too many vaccinated folk getting sick with one of these pesky variants, I'd be minded to agree with you.

After a number of weeks of pneumonia and taken into hospital with it Covid would have made little difference ! Not from me from a medical person !!

Like a lot of those dying from underlying health issues, COVID infection makes no difference

looks like the NHS managed to give Tom the virus then ?

that story started circulating in the Tory propaganda anti NHS rag the Daily Mail with little or no actual evidence behind it. It will be Labours fault by tomorrow night or a remainer plot to bump him off whichever gets the most clicks.

Tide is turning.  The current border restrictions are excessive.  Its a long way from people wanting to go on holiday and people are starting to be vocal about their issues.
