OK, different story maybe when it is the nearest and dearest. But how many nearest and dearest die away from the Isle of Man. Some, granted, and they are the obvious and extremely rare exception. We're in a pandemic. Your gran or whoever would understand. My mother died at the beginning of the pandemic last April. I couldn’t go to her funeral. I suffer to this day.
AlanShimmin
Australia now considering day 16 tests for returning travellers in response to the New Zealand case where a woman tested negative but then still went on to spread it. Day 16 would seem a sensible move. https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/feb/07/day-16-test-health-experts-weigh-proposal-for-post-quarantine-coronavirus-check
Boris Johnson
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-55967767 Not good, will we ever get the borders open? If this is how its going to be long term we need to have a proper re think. Start building a Covid hospital, issue bonds to pay for it and then we would have the capacity to open the borders and live with the virus circulating but with much less effect due to the vaccine. We need capacity in the hospital to do this. We cant keep the borders shut forever, people need to go away without it taking a month out of their lives. I need to visit to my specialist doc in the UK but I cant spare the time off for example. I am sure there are thousands like me who are putting up with this because we saw light at the end of the tunnel but wont be able to put up with it for ever. I agree with you and I think the aim of all governments will be to (1) vaccinate everyone possible and (2) have a vaccination infrastructure that allows for boosters and annual vaccination. The vaccinations in the main won't stop people getting covid. It'll lessen the effects and perhaps levels of immunity covid will vary in a positive manner. Every country is in the same position really. I think once points 1 and 2 above are in place then it is likely all restrictions will need removing. I suppose it is possible that some countries may insist on people having had the vaccination to enter but this will really be about not wanting the burden of sick people from other countries. And who will staff it? I don't think the concept "if you build it, they will come" would work in this situation.

Barlow
Another outbreak could result in not just a pro-rata with the UK number of hospital cases (it would be nice if the virus was so polite) but many, many more. Who knows? The Isle of Man currently has the situation under its control. To drop our guard is inviting disaster into the unknown.

Please, how many more beds do we have than 6? The Virus don't always play Mr Logic. It's a nasty little fucker and could decimate a community like the Isle of Man in weeks. I don't mean to be smartarse but have you spent much time in an ITU/ICU and seen what it takes to run a 'ventilation bed'* . I don't mean by watching News at Ten or something. I mean right in there and seen what goes on, 24 hours.. *I have a whole lot more experience of this than I would like, thank you.
