So, as I understand it, we're in one of two situations.

On the road to lockdown, but let's pretend not for now.

Our expert leadership and proactive approach has stopped any transmission in its' tracks. So we're in the clear, with the help of some luck.

Let's hope it's the second one.  Which will disappoint a number of people.

As a further note, yesterday’s briefing was an absolute shambles, we should put some of our local sixth form drama students up on the podium with the pre-written legally vetted speeches, and watch their improv skills outshine that of our glorious ‘leaders’.

The extraordinary thing about Quayle's statements is that they are written with all those folksy little remarks and self-deprecating asides, even emphases, already there - they're not added to a pre-existing more formal script, they are part of it.  So it's no surprise it comes across as incredibly wooden, like a pre-vetted BBC script from the 1940s, but more amateurish.  I have no idea why they do this, but the result is ridiculous.

It get worse when the questions start because the politicians clearly don't understand what they are talking about and half the time end up babbling with a string of random words coming out of their mouths, completely unrelated to the facts or indeed the English language.    Obviously they haven't asked even these straightforward questions of those who are briefing them on the topic.  Which makes you wonder on what grounds the decisions are being made if they don't understand the reasoning behind them.
