Nom de plume
How are Jersey fairing since they opened up nearly three weeks ago? Have the number of cases spiralled, recorded deaths on the increase?

They have been doing testing on arrival which Howard says is a waste of time & money!!! so Jersey fully open with testing, IOM closed with no testing. this is the link to how they decide who quarantines or not, https://www.gov.je/Health/Coronavirus/Travel/Pages/DeclaringTravelHistory.aspx Edited July 22, 2020 by Banker
the stinking enigma
A friend just rang me to say there were a lot of cars at the covid test place today. Not sure of the significance of this but it was certainly significant enough for her to mention it.

I’ve just visited their official Government website & was astonished to learn they’ve tested in excess of 24,000 people in comparison to our 7,500 give or take. Their cases & mortality rate are similar to ours yet they have a population which exceeds 105,000 persons on an Island near a quarter of the size of ours. Yes , lots of people were predicting Armageddon when they opened borders but obviously not the case, interesting also that Guernsey tested c 700 during their 7 day isolation trial and not one positive test, all negative! Nom de plume
Interestingly, our Level 4 measures will have been in place exactly 2 weeks when Jersey enters it’s fifth week with open borders (what would be our Level 2 position). It wouldn’t be unreasonable (provided Jersey has not reported a significant spike in cases) for us to jump from Level 4 to Level 2 early August, bypassing the need for Level 3. Of course this would be subject to Mr. Quayle’s Government mobilising testing facilities on arrival at the airport & the Sea Terminal. As I previously mentioned, Jersey seems to have managed rather well with a population over 105,000 persons. Have CoMin got the minerals is the question. Banker
It's the lack of any plan to open borders is the problem, Guernsey have the following plan; The key trigger to enable travel from the UK with no self-isolation requirements will come from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and any other identi ed data sources. The Public Health target is a prevalence of 1 in 5000 or less on two consecutive points in time with the anticipated implementation of changes on the 1st of September if these criteria are met. Suppose Howie will cancel Guernsey air bridge if they open borders before us?

Last ONS survey data is worse than the previous one unfortunately.
monasqueen
Jersey are apparently taking in day trippers from France, lots of whom are on holiday in Brittany from Paris. Tests are being done on arrival, but results can't be obtained until after they've gone, and they have to be sent to them. Doesn't sound like the sort of open border that we should be aspiring to.

Reports they are considering border control for France. But their economy is very tourism dependent

The stats will tell the story I'm sure (they've been 'open' 20 days now). I don't foresee many Parisians day-tripping here after vacating their Heysham or Llandudno holiday homes. There are 3 active cases according to their official Govt. website. That’s 20 days open borders with on arrival testing procedures. Smart people, intelligent governance. Please remember, we locked down the Island not to keep the virus away but to mitigate it’s transmission. The virus will be around for many months or years yet in some shape or form.
