A brief review of the SPO fiasco may explain HQ's desire to leave well alone. Except its not well at all.

1. GOV draft a totally unreasonable protocol for the SPO staff to follow - Idiotic

2. According to HQ the order is "open to interpretation" - Negligent

3. SPO interpret it as not needing staff to isolate off duty - Naturally

4. GOV decide not to audit SPO adherence to the protocol for almost a year - Negligent

5. SPO staffing the islands main artery to the world and its front line to exposure are:

-not tested regularly to minimise the impact of potential infection - Negligent

-not included in first tranche of vaccinations - Idiotic

Nor surprised he does not want a witch hunt when he is the Head of the Coven !

You missed the biggest negligence of all - that they didn't even start worrying about the possibility of the virus getting in via Steam Packet staff (or that of other carriers) until nearly a year into the pandemic.  Though given that everything seems to have worked fine until they started interfering, maybe that was for the best.

In practice some form of leakage into the Island via these routes was always going to happen some time or other, even with the most stringent precautions.  What is important is how quickly and efficiently you identify and deal with such outbreaks, whatever the source.  And the way that this has been dealt with has been even worse than last time with even more mistakes.

Once some kids start leaving early, with or without parental consent, you can't stop the others. They're free to just walk out the gates. The Head probably sent them home before they voted with their feet without any authority. It's a nice sunny day too and school has no power whatsoever to keep them on school grounds.

When we came back last year from a trip, yes we all stayed for over 14 days never ventured out what so ever and not once did anybody check up or phone or car to see if we was following the rules, Not once.

I wonder with all the people buying/renting houses and flats just now (there are stacks of them down our road).
Checking up must cost a few bob but it is absolutely negligible comparted to track and trace and lockdowns

A friends kid in Yr 9 at Bemahague now high temp, fatigued all day and persistent cough. Called 111 this morn but can't get a test till midday tomorrow.

Clearly there's some widespread issue at the school, hopefully it doesn't lead to any issues in the young.
