Clearly there's some widespread issue at the school, hopefully it doesn't lead to any issues in the young.

Well the young have been generally blase. Without the slightest awareness of the effects that so-called Long Covid may have on them.

I watched BBC North West News at lunchtime, and was surprised to see Alex Bell blaming the "Steam Packet Cluster" for the lockdown.

I got the impression, during the Press Conference, that they were trying to make it clear that the cause of the new lockdown is the handful of unexplained cases that cannot be linked back to the Packet.

Or does Alex Bell have a different source of information???

We saw him at the terminal today interviewing folks, just wondering if u can book passage over to Heysham during lock down. And if so WHY.

Perhaps Rachel's genomics is too forensic for them and would show where the errors have really been. It's all about controlling the information and the message.

Next time HQ says "we base our decisions on the best information available" remember that he knows this is not true and there is data he chooses not to use. Next time someone says "genomics is good at looking backwards but not forwards" remember this is not a valid reason not to use it at all when it can help solve transmission questions, especially the current one. HQ, DA and even Hen are comfortable dismissing precise scientific information that could help with appropriate and timely decisions yet bizarrely are quite happy with the totally inadequate statement that "we may never know where this came from".  Personal politics are clearly leading the science here.

This is undoubtedly a complex political balance that can never be risk free but with people's welfare and the economy at stake the absolute minimum requirement for HQ is to actually make use of all the best information available. A failure to do so for whatever reason is nothing less than a dereliction of duty. HQ would be taken apart by any half decent journalist.

We collected our child from school about a hour ago, also got a email saying, children will be off until the 25th March back for 1 day and then off for the ess break on Monday. You couldn't make it up.

Probably get another email saying as the teachers are going away to see families in UK for Easter & need time off to isolate can you please keep them home for another week 😂

Surely Easter break should be cancelled or curtailed

They are testing testing testing though.   Everyone at Mona Lisa, everyone at whatever the other place was....

It's not really showing up in the figures.  The 7 day daily average was jogging along at around 140 until the latest outbreak started on 17 February.  This would have been made up of the usual testing of hospital admissions plus 1/7/13 day tests on those returning.  The average has slowly risen since then but it's not ever got to 230, so less than 100 extra tests a day dealing with an actual outbreak.  And that's without taking into account any extra tests for other reasons, eg more travel from the UK or regular testing of those working for carriers.

That's not the sort of mass-testing that @rachomics was referring to and that you see in for example New Zealand when the first reaction to any outbreak is to open extra testing centres.

Your proberly right about, but I still say that the borders should be shut for all, no one leaves or enters unless it is for medical treatment, not totally heartless.

Thats a lie.

No one, no matter how twitter famous they think they are, gets Internet on the Ben

Shh! Don't tell anyone this but it turns out that the Bluewave Wifi on the boat works for the entire journey when there's only six passengers on board and only two of them use it.
