Tynwald and Govt off on hollibobs?

No wonder they were in such a hurry to get finished. I see from MR online that Mr President played no small role in that too, curtailing and dismissing motions on the grounds of technicalities and telling members that, "It had taught them a lesson". Yeah, right.

The incubation period is not known https://informationisbeautiful.net/visualizations/covid-19-coronavirus-infographic-datapack/

There's an average of around a week but potentially up to 2.

We test on symptomatic cases only, plus those front line workers who require one. We have capacity for 200 per day.

Opening up to leisure travellers is not needed. Don't travel - its not that hard. You can read a book anywhere.

I did not mean that anyone could travel to the island. Testing returning residents should allow a reduction of the quarantine period to 5-7 days without a meaningful increase of risk. The number of people travelling back to the island would be in the tens; well within the testing capability.

If the policy is too hard to bear, unavoidably there will be less compliance.

In theory I can read a novel anywhere; but in practice it only happens on trains.

Over 2,000!!! ... (2,203 to be precise in a one week period and that is just the initial uptake)

That's going to take an awful lot of resources up £££££ (Police one would imagine) door knocking on a daily basis to check & confirm self quarantine compliance.

Easier and more practical to test on arrival at Sea Terminal & Ronaldsway and have the traveller pay for the privilege.

Does any one know if it is permitted for Manx residents to enter Ireland, travelling via BMC into Belfast, and driving across the border?

thanks!

No problem IOM and NI are on the Irish Green list. U.K. is not.

Actually neither Northern Ireland or the Isle of Man are on the official Green List at all.  The Isle of Man because we seem to have been forgotten about or because the UK didn't want us to be treated differently to them (as the Green List includes Gibraltar, I suspect the latter).  Obviously anyone coming directly from IOM would be  less likely to be infected than someone from other places on that list.

However, according to the COVID-19 Passenger Locator Form [downloads], "Passengers arriving from Northern Ireland" don't even need to fill that form in, never mind go into quarantine or whatever. And anyone arriving into Northern Ireland from somewhere in the Common Travel Area (which includes the Isle of Man) automatically doesn't need to self-isolate for 14 days[1].  So going  by that route should be possible.

(You may have noticed that this means someone arriving from the UK has to self-isolate if they travel directly to Ireland but not if they go via NI.  As with most things involving the Irish border, this is a mess.  And the subject of political rows).

This means that although we are not officially on the Green List, going via NI means that we end up being treated as if we were.  And it's not really morally dodgy because obviously we should be on it.

Even though getting there should be easy, you will still need to obey whatever rules are in force when you get back to the Island about self-isolating etc.  Also the rules and public health advice in Ireland are much stricter than those currently happening in the Isle of Man regarding face covering etc.  So you will need to remember and follow those.

[1]  Technically this is only possible if you have been in the CTA for the last 14 days)

It is crackpot making people returning from holiday isolate and not making everyone in their household isolate.   We were doing so well.

Fully agree & I’m in the allow borders to open crowd.

Test at border on arrival, mitigate transmission of the virus.

The risk of catching Covid will be greater at arrival and departure points in the U.K. or further on. So testing on arrival back in IOM will not identify if you have it. It will only appear in the next 1-14 days.

if you have had a swab test you will not be keen to have another one!

Especially as one of the motions that Rodan managed to prevent being discussed was the one that wanted Tynwald to meet in September.  You can't help suspecting that if it had been a government motion that suffered from confusion over who was seconding it, he would have been a bit more accommodating.

Says whom?

The reality is mor than 2000 people, myself included, have applied for a re-entry certificate so that when it is safe to travel we can bypass a bit of red tape. This part of the procedure is a "one of" requirement. Individual trips have to be applied for at the time of travel.

You are correct on one thing though, we are all going to die. But it is unlikely to be of covid19 while we have a tight hold on the borders.

Everyone seems to be treating this as if all 2303 (or whatever) are going to immediately leave the Island and then come back on the same day all together.  In practice it just seems to be another bit of unnecessary bureaucracy - filling in a form so you can fill in another form.
