Pathetic platitudes like: lessons will be learned (Oh God find a new one) we don't want a witch hunt it was a communications problem we need to look forwards we use all the information available are no excuse for this. It's not even incompetence as that implies a lack of adequate training or ability. This is such basic stuff it's negligence. The only real lesson here is that you don't need to be an expert to avoid most of this mess. It just needs hard work, attention to detail and accountability (shock, horror) but most importantly, energetic leadership focussed on success rather than blame avoidance. It took months to come out of the lockdown last year, it'll be a lot quicker this time. The big difference this time is that it was totally avoidable. If the IOMSPCo and IOMG had confirmed their expectations of one another, this situation would almost certainly not have happened. Yes, some people do switch off - there were 7.1k viewers on Facebook at its peak today (10.9k yesterday) - but usually the down turn is after the 'juicy' bits have been read out at the start.
