IOM Covid removing restrictions

Obviously an app would tell us who was at high risk and who wasn't.  We don't have one

In your post you have outlined very well the shortcomings of any app. It bases its risk assessment largely on the distance between individuals (based on bluetooth signal strength) and the amount of time, as well as when the contact occurred relative to the start time of the symptoms of the infected case.

Many of the people on the bus would be identified as high risk. Certainly you would if your work colleague had it, in the situation you describe. A text telling someone to isolate without telling them where they have had the high risk contact will often be ignored.

If people on the Isle of Man want to use a contact tracing app, there is nothing to stop them downloading and using the NHS app. You may need to put in a UK postcode rather than an IoM one, but the only bit of information that loses you is what the risk level is in your area, which most people already know. Of course you need to convince enough people to download it to make it effective

Also Douglas & ballasalla schools , think only Ramsey left out!!

Do you now accept that there should have been a lockdown weeks ago? And that the ferry crews should either isolate or be UK based?

I’d argue there are two separate issues at play.

The original source of the outbreak should have no bearing on the mitigation of it. You act based on the spread of it. I’d agree that there was a lot of feeling things were moving too slowly.

With regards to the Steam Packet, we’d had no problems even when it was at 50k cases a day in the UK. Steam Packet staff are now vaccinated and tested regularly, so this shouldn’t happen again. It’s just unfortunate this is what it took to get to that point.

There seems to be no scientific agreement on whether vaccination prevents people from spreading the virus.

https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/vaccines-and-immunization-what-is-vaccination

When a person gets vaccinated against a disease, their risk of infection is also reduced – so they’re also less likely to transmit the virus or bacteria to others. As more people in a community get vaccinated, fewer people remain vulnerable, and there is less possibility for an infected person to pass the pathogen on to another person. Lowering the possibility for a pathogen to circulate in the community protects those who cannot be vaccinated (due to health conditions, like allergies, or their age) from the disease targeted by the vaccine.

Whatever you want to criticize the IOM Government for you can’t criticize it for open and honest, or lack of communication. Five briefings in five days, with media questions if I’m correct.
As regards friendly communication, when faced with the likes of an aggressive Moulton and to a lesser extent Glover, the CM does well to keep his temper in check. Not sure I could.

Yes I agree. Ashford hit the ball out of the park with his answer about vaccine wastage. He put it to bed.

So why did PM?

1. Complain he wanted more questions then,

2. Waste his question asking about vaccine wastage when it had already been asked and answered once, comprehensively. So us peeps had to listen to Ashford regurgitate the comprehensive answer again....thread to the needle.

PM is ok sometimes. Last night he was a total muppet. It seems he thinks he is under pressure to do a Paxman everytime.

Initially, that was the case, because the evidence didn’t yet exist.

The hypothesis did, but you don’t want to tell people based on just a hypothesis and assuring them it should work that way.

As time goes on, the evidence points to a significant reduction.
