Mr Newbie
22 minutes ago, Anyone said: Well suppose in the end how much we need to spend on keeping old fat people with multiple problems who will die soon anyway alive. Harsh but true. Especially when they are double incontinent and have no idea who the are. I’d want to be put down Shorter of breath and one day closer to death. The screaming banshees shouting “we’re all going to die” seem to have left Jersey long ago. Whats our plan? That’s right, we haven’t got one. Yes, but can you imagine the whining here if government suggested 14 day internment for anyone unlucky enough to be sitting in the vicinity of someone else testing positive on the plane over? And they are taking a risk - a calculated one, certainly, but with a UK prevalence of say 1:2000-5000, the likelihood of someone coming in who tests negative on arrival and then spreads infection around after a day or two is almost inevitable. Interesting that the writer had no trouble getting a table (except once) without booking restaurants. Can’t do that here in many places. And with only 20% occupancy in the hotel he was in, is the risk worth it for the Jersey economy? Time will tell.

Yes, but those that are willing to travel will be more than aware if someone tests positive on arrival & they were seated near them, they’ll likely be quarantined also. A calculated risk. For many, a risk worth taking perhaps. The Jersey model is a well thought out & effective way of reopening the border & mitigating the risk to their population. We haven’t got one, it’s as simple as that. You can talk about Levels 5 down to 1 until you are Blue in the face but the jump from Level 3 to Level 2 will require a testing strategy (on arrival). Mr. Quayle doesn’t seem to understand this - though I’m sure there will be much pomp & fanfare made out of the Level 4 to Level 3 media announcement (though no significant deviation from Level 5 protocol). Our policy appears to be - wait until the virus disappears completely (not likely) before we allow travel without restriction. Not a viable short to medium term strategy. That is the biggest inhibitor on everything we’re doing here. It seems to suit an awful lot of people to just sit there spreading fear and trying to stop every move to try to move us forward. Lots of them typical Manx moaners and many of them government workers who can’t be arsed going back to work and think that they can hold things up indefinitely by spreading fear to suit their own agenda. 1

Well if not down to level2 by September the big test will come with student exodus to university with parents etc. not sure they will be able to check on say 500/1000 parents coming back are isolating and will they get paid if they do? no doubt the usual crowd will say no need for parents to travel but they will!!
