They also criticised the composition of Jersey’s Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee for, they claimed, not consisting ‘purely of medical and health experts’.

Why should it? Of course they should lead, but there should also be logistics experts and economists for starters.

Exactly right. We are in the realms of politics here not science.

The politician with balls needs to weigh up the loss due to the desease against the loss in economic and other health problems.  Not easy.

Please enlighten me on those priorities but don’t mention tourism as we have suffered probably more than most with the TT & FOM being canned.

Wouldn't it be odd to discuss this without mentioning tourism? Jersey has a significant toursim industry.

It's difficult to find exactly comparable numbers - but tourism represents almost 10% of Jersey's economy. Tourist accommodation and catering (all of catering including the local market) seems to represent about 1% of national income on the IOM.

She did, but Thatcher's statement at that time is irrelevant to what she might've said had she been having to deal with this pandemic. Being a scientist herself and her level of understanding, one would hope that she'd have given greater consideration of the scientific advice and the potential consequences of a pandemic in her decision-making. But we'll never know...

Well, it would be state sponsored in this context. Some of the people I refer to are subject to the opposite. State sponsored prolongation of life by intervention when they would otherwise die naturally. I am pleased you agree that voluntary euthanasia should be a basic right. If we can get to that stage - big "if" - then can we still logically be keeping alive those who are in even worse condition, physically out of control and beyond cognitive reasoning to effect their own release from a living hell?

@woolley

This is absolutely the crux of the matter so how do you know that they are beyond cognitive reasoning?

Seems we have more in common with Guernsey than we think. Just hit the national press.

Where are we up to with the Jersey Executives who were wanted for breaches of the quarantine rules , now that Jersey have opened their borders the Manx constabulary will be able to investigate and find the culprits? I have a suspicion that we will hear no more on this subject until things go quiet and then we will get it's not in the public's interest to investigate.

Serious questions need to be asked in Tynwald on that one. Right now.

Brain activity can be monitored. Ultimately, you have to accept when you are beaten, medical science has done its best and for mercy's sake it's time to let go. Somebody in this state is not self-sustaining. It's an artificial situation brought about by intervention. If there is no quality of life then it's merely prolonging the agony.
