I beg to totally disagree but the clip is 100% clear. You can’t castigate people for being honest.

If PM hadn't questioned it at 39:50, the figure of 56 would've been taken as gospel. Leaving people somewhat shocked at 8pm when the updated figures came out.

Listening to it now, Ashford's response boils down to "we only have what is in the system, it's only a snapshot". He then elaborates that they want to change that approach and make it more real time. Though, it begs the question of how that information had been passed through if the portal hadn't been updated.

If it wasn't an issue, it wouldn't be something they're feeling the pressure to change.

If PM hadn't questioned it there wouldn't have been any 8pm update.

With those technical skills I assume you head up GTS and have responsibility for the 111 line, vaccine booking, and collection of testing figures?

Try again.  It’s not that hard. Hit the ‘+’ button (next to where it says quote) just once for each post you want to quote. There’ll be a little pop-up that says ‘quote n posts’ - hit that and your reply window pops up with your quoted posts. You can always go to the test forum and try it there before cocking it up again here.

Over the weekend there was an update put out at about 8/9pm

Not remotely relevant to the point being made.

There wouldn't have been an evening update tonight to follow the 4pm one if PM hadn't revealed what a disgruntled MHK or civil servant had obviously leaked to him

What is sad, is this attempted obfuscation, as that is what it was, has detracted from their ability to say, and our ability to ask, about where we go, going forward. Instead social media is alive with conspiracy theories and the laughable Dr Ewart!

If Ashford would have simply said " we have a confirmed 56 cases at this time, however, I have information that that figure could be considerably higher later in the day" Social media could then have merely argued about the way forward!

Without doubt they now know MHK's will break ranks.

FWIW.

The fifth most read article on BBC at the moment is ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-isle-of-man-56327651

So the message out there is - "The number of new infections rose by 56 overnight, a fall from the record high of 81 that were recorded on Sunday."

It's actually very poor journalism because Alex Bell actually asked questions at the media briefing, so he should have been aware that the figures were disputed.   It's obvious that the BBC story was partly based on a pre-written media release because Manx Radio's version with the same numbers is timed at 4:01 pm - too early have been written from the event.  The BBC does seem to have added stuff from the briefing as well, but that just makes it worse.

All the other outlets (Manx Radio, Energy, 3FM) have published the updated version, though without exploring the whole story.  Gef haven't (though to be fair it's only a One Man and an Imaginary Mongoose operation) though it did mention Moulton disputing the figures and produced the Freudian Slip of the Week therein:

PAUL: YOU TOLD MEMBERS OF TYNWALD 108 CASES THIS MORNING?

DAVID: SNAPSHOT IN TIME - THE BRIEFING TO TYNWALD MEMBERS WAS SHARING WHAT WE EXPECT THE NUMBERS TO BE AT THE END OF THE DAY.

THE NUMBERS I READ OUT TODAY HAVE BEEN FED INTO THE MEDICAL SYSTEMS. EXPECT TO SEE MORE, LIE I SAID AT THE START

Last and least Joshua Stokes hasn't produced anything at all.

You’re clutching at straws. His answer is 100% clear. It was a verified 56 up to 15:45. And 110 by close of business several hours (and lot of verification) later,

No, The point of the matter is, if Paul Moulton hadn't queried it, the likelihood is that the update would've gone out at 4pm as usual, and the rest would've been added to tomorrow's figures.

When another group have already been given a much higher figure, this leads to a perception of dishonesty or poor organisation. Neither is good when you want the confidence of the people you lead and represent.

Spin it how you like. They lied. They tried to hide the fact that we hit over 100 new cases in one day, and are also denying that all this happening, is none of their fault. They're only kidding themselves. Let's see if they change tactics in the next briefing. Not holding my breath.
