Nobody seems to have asked yet why for the more transmissible strain, we had the least strict lockdown of all. Far more people working, far more children in hub schools.

There’s no children in any hub schools not even critical workers children

Dr Allinson does not sound well. Someone needs to check on him.

Fairplay to CoMin & Co, these guys have probably had little sleep and rest all lockdown and a shedload of worry. Working for the best interests of the Island.

Allinson looked dreadful at the media briefing yesterday.  Very full of a bad cold at least.  One of the disadvantages of working from home is that people sometimes continue working when really they should take to their beds and rest.

Education is a complete mess at the moment, even without Covid, and he has had to take over a Department that was dysfunctional even by Manx standards.

Sdo does this below suggest family visits this month or next? To me it does but I might simply be giving them credit for eventually  engaging common sense when they have done nothing of the sort.

"

Will enable us to pivot from elimination to mitigation

  1. Preparation - little change in the measure we have in place while cases here and in the UK fall.
Expect unknowns such as vaccine delivery to consist.
Hopefully we can prepare to welcome friends and family to our shores.
Any outbreak now will need a strong response.
Probably take up March to April.

  2. Transition - significant changes
Changes to border policy, but not full removal
Should be well into vaccine programme
May -  all adults should have been offered first dose
July - should have done all second doses for vulnerable people
Assess our levels of defence and adjust position accordingly

  3. Release, will have better understanding of how the vaccine is working
Whole world will have a new plan for how to continue
Plan for winter and removing any remaining border restrictions
Border is our biggest defence and biggest threat
Can only ditch restrictions when it is prudent to do so
Where we can, we will seek external advice about whether people think it is prudent to do so from academic and public health thinking
Hopefully September we should have vaccinated all over 18s by then
Can’t be sure what will happen when
We need to be ready to put measures in place if required
While we can’t say when, we can say is how we will approach this"

Yes left a real mess by Cregeen who is now keeping head down & only commenting on local issues like Ballasalla housing etc

For them I actually suspect the lack of childminders will be a bigger problem than the lack of hub schools.  On the whole essential workers will have always made arrangement for coping when school isn't available in holidays or because they work non-standard hours (as essential workers tend to).  No childminders and restrictions on who can look after children will be the real difficulties.

It looks very much as if the mess here was caused by the Cabinet Office.  After the January lockdown clearly all the businesses had been complaining that they were essential and the list grew to include practically everyone.  They also decided to let students attend their usual schools.  So Allinson effectively ended up having to announce that the schools were closed but anyone who wanted to send their children there still could and they would be open.  Not a brilliant idea in an outbreak where transmission was being driven by schoolchildren.

There is absolutely no way that they can or will stick to that vaccination time table on current performance.

They need to start preparing now for more COVID jabs starting October, November latest, along with the others (flu, pneumonia).
