Appx 2000 per day currently dying in Brazil. I doubt they've all got underlying health issues.

But you don’t know. Brazil has a high general population HIV infection rate and a lot of poverty where people will be living in unsanitary conditions in close proximity to others in the same boat. It’s good to spread fear though. I do get it.

There are a few here who have expressed similar sentiments. Calling people "bed wetters" and arguing that everyone should all just get on with it.

You really are a doom & gloom merchant aren’t you , obviously want permanent lockdown .

Have you thought about joining samaritans to give out your cheerful advice?

How is Brazils vaccination program going?

Are they social distancing and wearing masks with regular hand washing and a first rate health system.

Do they eat well? Do they generally have other underlying health conditions?

What is their typical life expectancy?

How many deaths per year per 100k population is standard in Brazil?

I'm all about how we make the best of the situation whilst facing reality.

You seem to be more about wishing it would all go away. That's never been a smart or realistic strategy. We're never going back to a pre-Covid world and that's no bad thing.

On the plus side - it's going to be like the roaring 20s a few years from now, on the other side of this.

You know 2000 deaths a day out of a population of 211 million people and in a country where they completely screwed up the vaccinations isn't remotelyrelevant to here right?

It would be dishonest, cynic mode '' more dishonest '', of our Govt to stop giving the covid + numbers.

Mitigation mode will require us to do our own risk assessment, how can we do that without info on spread and numbers?

If a future mitigation period has a spread with the speed of our current situation occurs, can our Govt ignore that ? How can we assess our risk if we don't have the info to do that?

Mitigation sounds like a Grand Strategy, a move away from 'Elimination' and it's restrictions, a flood of tourists to aid our economy but how can past strategies be suddenly cast aside, either by the govt or ourselves? We need to have faith in the new strategy, that it will not place ourselves in as great a danger as at present, which can be controlled by our Govt and then accept that our Govt will step aside and let things ride with any blame put upon ourselves.

Surely the mitigation period will still be subject to Govt lockdowns and controls which are not being considered by the Open it all up brigade?

If it doesn't, then we will blame our Govt for allowing ''Mitigation''?

And do you understand the Brazilian strain is killing people who had already previously had Covid 19?

It's infecting and killing people who have already had previous strains.

The figures are useless if testing is targeted at specific individuals.

The only useful figures for monitoring spread are a random section of society on a weekly basis.  Most people have no symptoms.

"As great a danger as present "

I don't feel at danger and neither do lots of others.

800 cases that we know of and one death that we don't yet know is actually from COVID.  Plus the cases at new year.

Given the option I and lots of others would open up tomorrow, do random testing to measure spread, regular updates on people admitted to hospital BECAUSE of COVID and take my chances.

Please take your doom & gloom shit elsewhere, UK cases are tumbling and that’s what most are interested in, not what’s happening in Brazil!

Everyone (excluding morons) assumes that strain will be here soon.

People die.  Its hardly breaking news.

I still see your post as sheer scaremongering.  Their population is 211,000,000 they have barley vacinnated anyone and the socio-economic makeup is completely different to ours. As is their health care system.
