but don't they hold every traveller for the full 14days (they had that couple who were let out early to see a dying father to serve as a warning) thus maybe the 14days is questionable in efficiency?

I wouldn’t try to over think about it or obsess about it. It’s happened. Just like it will inevitably happen here at some stage. Even if it got in on an envelope what are you going to do? Stop tens of millions of people and every business in an entire country from receiving post?

sorry as a retired academic I've usually found that unexplained 'funnies' often tell us more than we may initially think - often comes up in the bit of historical research I currently do to keep myself occupied

I’m sure you’re right but the logical conclusion is something that causes even more damage for little additional gain. So you attribute virus transmission to some envelopes or packages. Then what do you do? Ban eBay and Amazon and shut the whole postal system in an entire country down for weeks or months causing yet more economic destruction and unemployment?

Now we’re getting to the nub of it & the absolute idiocy of the whole situation.

The penny will drop eventually.

It’s an absolute bloodbath out there now and this is only the start. All to stop maybe a small percent of them catching Covid and probably recovering and less than 1% dying (probably less in working age groups).

Over 9.6 million are still on furlough too out of a working population of 32 million. Nearly 1/3 of the UK workforce with no current job relying on state handouts. It’s an absolute clusterfuck of ineptitude and devastation. Boris is worse than Thatcher when it comes to generating unemployment.

The penny needs to drop soon for the mentalists.

The worst recession ever & it’s only just beginning.

Well as long as teapot, cambon & Albert T feel safe let’s not change anything!!

It’s amazing that those who generally seem to complain about government on here now seem to be happy to lie down and let governments totally destroy their lives and tear down the economy around them and yet they’re happy as they feel comfortable that they’ve dodged an imaginary bullet from a virus that was never going to kill them. But then you can get away with anything if you can force people to live under constant fear.

Err, don't include me in that list! I thought they were wrong to shut everything down in the first place. They should have shielded the elderly and vulnerable. However, since they did shut it down, we have to be careful how it is reopened. Jerseys model is not going to work long term. They have imported over twenty cases and have hundreds isolating. The Guernsey / Iom seven day and test is much better but must not be introduced until second week of September. Timing is everything. We have most of our economy up and running. It is not worth risking that for the sake of a few weeks.

You would appear to be the forum balloon knot. You can communicate with the dead too? You do understand that a significant number of those deaths would have happened anyway as the people were sadly in the elderly and vulnerable categories? It seems very difficult to justify a government taking nearly 10,000,000 jobs of fit healthy working people and destroying the economy of a whole country when it could have just told the old and vulnerable to lock themselves away for 6 months.
