Opening schools fully on 12/4 may be replaced with a week of hub opening Unless there is some sort of alarming spike in cases numbers schools should be opened on the 12th. Really, everything should and we should get on with it.

No, but if everything is fully open in uk in June & Channel Islands are allowed unrestricted travel at same time, Howie is going to look worse than ever if he’s still spouting on about September and isolating everyone for 14 days

IMO the borders should only open when all have been jabbed on both sides. It’s not just the continent. There’ll be some border restriction for Africa, lots of Asia and South America through 2022

wrighty
4 hours ago, Roger Mexico said: Vaccination passports are a silly idea because vaccination doesn't protect you from catching and spreading the disease. It certainly seems to reduce the risk but not to a negligible level. The Pfizer vaccine maybe reduces by 80% AZ by about 67%, but that still leaves a lot of vaccinated people who will get the disease. And the very fact that the vaccines are more effective in reducing symptoms and harm will make those cases more likely to be asymptomatic spreaders. Vaccination doesn't even guarantee complete protection. Malta yesterday reported that six fully vaccinated people had died with the disease. I disagree. If, like most, you think that vaccinating as many people as possible is a good thing, then introducing ‘passports’ will act as a nudge for people to get jabbed. Those that are currently ambivalent/apathetic will go get one. Those refusing because they’re in the tinfoil hat brigade - well that’s their problem. As long as there’s an official exemption scheme for those genuinely unable to have the vaccine - but there will be very few people in that category. Do you have any solutions to getting humanity out of this, accepting that none of the vaccines are ever going to be 100%, and that it’s inevitable that we all die of something, some day? 7

You are probably right, their risk appetite is going to be less, but I hope those people who rely on continuity of service for their business whether it be retail, hospitality or construction will be reminding them that on/off restrictions are no way to progress. How long do you envisage this hair trigger uncertainty may go on for, a week, a month, six months, another year? I want my children educated properly, to return to sports and I am personally opposed to circuit breakers once the vulnerable are vaccinated in full.

Yes that’s the plan for 1st July Guernsey and June Jersey, easing of restrictions based on traffic light system for end April so eg based on present cases rates they could travel to either channel island or SW England with just negative test on arrival. we need similar system ASAP
thommo2010
If the vulnerable are vaccinated why should there be any further lockdowns? I can see what's going to happen kids go back to school cases go up government panic and within a month schools are closed again.

pongo
If the right measures are in place here we won't have any cases. That's the best thing for the economy for now. Vaccinating the whole world and then following that up is the key to getting on top of this. Otherwise it keeps mutating.
