Your either/or binary statement is detracting from the reality of the headline: Vaccines NOT lockdowns are the 'key driver' for curbing Covid outbreaks. I think that is more-or-less obvious anyway. Lockdown had its place when the vaccine was but a dream. Edited May 7, 2021 by Barlow

Bloody hell that’s rich coming from you, thought you were part of Cambon group who think only lockdowns stop infections not vaccinations !

Lockdown had its place when the vaccine was but a dream. Yet there are many (here) who argue vehemently that lockdowns are the primary reason why infections & deaths are falling. They are clearly deluded bells who are intent on continuing to ‘work from home’ or spin out MERA or other handouts as long as the Government teat will allow them to suckle from it. Covid has shown them up to be the layabout chancers that they are. Edited May 7, 2021 by Nom de plume

Turns out, happy employees are more productive. https://www.npr.org/2021/05/06/994123311/google-adapts-to-long-term-telework-offers-employees-hybrid-work-week

Far too many distractions at home for the majority.

2112
Henny the Director of Public Health whinging how she dreads the borders opening fully, for the fear of new variants etc. Well her boss Ashie and HRH The Chief Minister don’t like Rachel Glover the Specialist in tracing these variants etc, so that’s one handicap the islands got. An idea for when the borders reopen properly, would be to have a team of people on the Mannanan and Ben my Chree to take swabs prior to boarding, at Heysham and Liverpool. These can be sent immediately to be analysed. Anyone infected can be informed. On their return to the island perhaps more testing. Sadly this costs money, but it’s a question of priorities. Wasting money on pointless capital schemes or protecting its citizens whilst not strangling its economy.

I kind of agree, but the practical aspects may be more difficult to arrange.

I was thinking if swabbing crew based on the Ben or Mannanan sailed to Heysham, tested drivers/passengers prior to boarding , the samples can be immediately sent off for testing when the ship departs. Just a thought what could be done

You would hope the last thing anyone wants is the borders to close again. IIRC Dr Ewart said that the UK Border Controls would protect the island from variants. However this one is already in the NW region. Have to say it's not very amusing for those dying from this variant....

It’s not amusing to die from anything but if you don’t have adequate health care systems then that’s the reality for many people, however it’s nothing for UK or us to be scared of given the vaccinations programs & health care we have
