You won't have full protection.

It doesn’t mean I’ll be licking door handles over there, just covering me if I’m unlucky. I’ve waited since March of last year, so a few more weeks won’t kill me. No, just stick to licking door handles here. A few more weeks probably isn't a big issue, and it is up to everyone to assess their own risk, IMO. That is why there should be moves to open up more travel with the UK regardless of what they do about opening their borders, the only limitation being two jabs. A bit, dare I say it, like the CI. That seems an entirely rational and pragmatic response.

As much as selfishly, I’d like to go away, I’m not going to jeopardise them for the sake of getting my 2nd done and waiting a couple of weeks for that to work. At what point will you say enough is enough? your second vaccine will effectively mask your symptoms well enough that if you do get Covid you will be unlikely to know about it, but you can still pass it on to your unvaccinated household. People are freely moving between here and the UK, only requiring one test on their return with 48 hours, we’ve learnt from past outbreaks that the incubation period can be 4+ days, so chances are we already have positive cases walking around undetected within the community.

It started with a 3 month lockdown to protect the NHS Then a lockdown to allow the vaccine Then a lockdown to protect christmas (which was then scrapped) we are now at the stage where the experts are talking about CASES spiking, the narrative of protect the NHS has gone it is now about cases. The goalposts just seem to be moved all the time. As I have said further up in Scotland the government are allowing 6,000 fans to attend a fanzone every day of euro 2020 and 12,000 fans to attend Hampden for the football but denied this a month ago when the cases per 100k was lower, they have stopped parents going to their kids graduations, there is very little sense in certain restrictions. But for the FM of Scotland it's an ideal excuse to hide the many woes that have beset her government.

The only community testing is pre hospital admission tests, I don’t think that will act as a true reading, because if you’ve been waiting for an op you’re more likely to be careful. You don't need proactive testing to find cases though. People would be getting symptoms and coming forward for testing.

If 80% of people are vaccinated and effectively turn into asymptomatic cases then you need to wait until the virus hits the unvaccinated population. Testing within 48 hours will not pick up everything, you only need to look at the number of day 6 tests previously. Unless 111 change their testing requirements and allow vaccinated people to come forward with slight cold symptoms and I can’t see that happening, then until unvaccinated people end up in hospital with Covid we will carry on as normal blissfully unaware. snowman
After obvious health impacts, the main benefit of our early vaccine success was going to be our early relaxation of rules & restrictions. That has been completely squandered because Johnson prioritised a face-saving trade deal with India over the welfare of the people he governs.
TheTeapot
It's interesting to note pretty much everyone was baffled by the lack of an emergency advisory committee, and now one has finally been set up theres a load of kick off because they do't like what it came up with.
