The 'science' has , beyond any reasonable doubt, shown themselves to hold no consensus on any COVID issue to the extent (aside from the geneticists who deserve every possible praise in producing the vaccines) that the rest actually know the square root of FA - all guess-work, agenda, politics, opinion and manipulated stats. You didn't, you quite clearly asked 'and who the hell is Christina Pagel to pontificate?'. If that doesn't sound like criticism what does? Generally, academics are rated on their publication output, peer review and citation. Hence the scholar link. Has science ever been about consensus? Science is about 'guess-work' as you put it, it's called a hypothesis. It's fundamentally a part of science, it's just that, with the background knowledge and context, those 'guesses' can be very well educated and close to the mark. You then prove or disprove those to refine your next set. You also neglect the fact that the science is merely one part of the puzzle, and that what you call doomers are purely discussing potential outcomes based on probability. The 'politicians' decide what the human cost is worth. The likelihood now is that Boris has decided that winging it is the way to go, and hoping it pays off. It at least kicks the can down the road to the end of the year.

Great to see the place heaving. Port Erin was packed this afternoon

Port Erin was packed this afternoon JAKS have just installed some sort of new fanged UV purifier ventilation system, nice to see a local business being pro active rather than reactive.

Yep and Barbary coast. Top guys down both places, would be nice to see some sort of government help or incentive for businesses to install these in as many places as possible. Should have been about 6 months ago though, to give those who are worried a bit of peace of mind and as another differentiation when attracting tourists. They say it also filters odours. Have to say the jury is out on that one at the moment, but we are next to a particularly “challenging” group of individuals.
