IOM Covid removing restrictions

Regarding the previous many comments about taking responsibility for our own health - its not quite as simple as that when we look to others (NHS) to provide the right leadership, guidance, information, communications, facilities and resources to enable us to do that.

If they don't then they have avoided their prime responsibility and should be held accountable.

Comments about opening up "come what may" do not take everyones situations into account and really wasn't necessary. 'Living with the virus' for everyone needed much more carful planning and was / is achievable.

I fear this government has been found wanting, again.

"You've got to learn to live with the virus" says the 'leadership', cowering away. What a hilarious bunch of absolute fucking pussies.

Sadly Mr. Speaker has got his way. He's made no secret of the fact that he doesn't want the Island to open up?

The question I have for him is.... if not now, then when?

This really is quite embarrassing in my view.  I wonder if the websites that collect worldwide data harvest these figures and end up with things like negative percentages recovering in the past 24 hours etc.  How difficult can it be to have a single spreadsheet column containing ‘new positives’ since the previous snapshot, and having active cases being the sum of the last 14 cells, and daily change being a simple 2 cell subtraction?

I am quite surprised that you are embarrassed about this, what with you being an employee of the government here for quite a few years. You must know how it works. I have been here 10 years and I know and I am not employed by them.

My company does a little bit of government "Contracts" very little for good reason and I could write several books about incompetence in the higher ends of public office.

Bullies and ass covering, rule in the world of IOM civil service and keeping "The Minions" (CS rank and file) shtum on the unsaid threat of "Them" "Getting" you is enough to keep most CS quiet.

This island is about the most distasteful pile of crap I have ever come across and once I have wrung the last penny I can out of it I will be gone to anywhere, as anywhere is better than here.

It’s even further out than that actually as several have recovered and not active anymore yesterday’s total positive cases was 1876. So 2114 - 1876 = 238.

Yes, well spotted, how on earth are they calculating these numbers when it’s not even close?

And faithfully reported as 127 by Manx Radio, despite them querying it yesterday.

The number of new cases is actually 2114 - 1876 = 238, so there must have been some recoveries.

The number in Hospital is implausible for that number of active cases as well.  Based on other countries 5 or 6 would be what you'd expect.  Malta for example (which is also highly vaccinated) has 18 in hospital from 1963 active cases.

I’d personally like to know what our rolling 7 day average is and if that’s actually being calculated correctly, that is how other countries are being judged/rated, we were previously ‘leading the way’  constantly comparing our efforts against other countries and that should work both ways, we can’t only take credit for the good, visitors should be able to make an informed choice and that requires clear & precise reporting of figures.

I’m not sure if the figures are an example of carelessness or if they’re being manipulated but it hardly instils  confidence.

They have to vote on it tomorrow. Going to be quite interesting if the majority of members don't agree with Speaker. Especially since he is then asking him to vote for him to be President as the next item.

Given how regularly it's happening it's obviously deliberate.

The fixation with case numbers goes on.

Jesus fucking wept.

We’ve all been told to stop focusing on case numbers by our Government and that is the advice that you wish to follow, so doesn’t that actually make you the sheep?

It's to lessen the headline figure on that day. Then the others are added the next day with no fanfare. Thats whý they release the figures a bit earlier sometimes  to create the window.

Except of course the dashboard specifically says.  NEW CASES IN LAST 24 HOURS (their caps) so it should still include those from the previous calendar day after 3 pm or whenever.

Maybe these are special civil service hours that only last 40 minutes.

Surely taking responsibility for your own health involves applying the rules which we were given at the outset? Social distancing, masks where appropriate, hand gels, making your own decisions on how much you want to risk socialising?

Everyone wants guidance, how much do you need?

There a total embarrassment  and have been through most of this. I also think they've lost grip of the situation big time when found out on several issues. This numbers anomaly being a classic. Also think many have there eyes on the looming election . I can put many out of there misery ! Your not getting back in .

Mitigations such as face coverings and social distancing only work effectively when the vast majority of the population engages in them. That's why we need stronger leadership and messaging - if not outright mandates - while infections are rising exponentially.
