My mate a fan of Ashford, what amazes me is he always has an answer, and just imagine the unbelievable amount grief he has had to put up with for 16 months. When he signed up, must have thought job will not be that bad, get usual moaners but that part of job, and then COVID hit.

Ashford always has something to say and is wise enough to always sound reasonable (unlike Quayle say who has a very short fuse) but if you listen to what he says, it's often nonsense or at least completely unsupported by evidence.  At best he tends to just say what he thinks his listeners want to hear and hopes they don't notice he said something different yesterday and will do something completely different tomorrow.

He took over a Department after the previous Minister was sacked because she wanted reforms.  Everyone knew the DHSC was a mess, at best he must have hoped that he would get away with doing whatever the civil service told him.

A good observation Roger - Ashford is just as empty a vessel as his mentor and role model Quayle. He’s simply more adept at obscuring that - not actually adept per se.

According to MR cruise passengers still can't come ashore. What's the difference between somebody getting off the Ben or Mannanan and somebody getting off a cruise ship??

Cruise pax likely to be disappointed for 8 - 12 hours before they leave.

Ben/Mannanan pax likely to be disappointed for 3 - 7 days before they leave.

Modern cruise boats are filled with Chavs, it is nothing like it used to be when cruising used to be a high class holiday.

Its now Butlins on Sea or Pontins on the piss.

We really don't need any more Chavs here.

The whole of UK plus Ireland & various other European countries are on USA red list so it’s not exclusive!!

But Manx Twitter has daubed us #plagueisland & we’re all going to die of Covid soon.

Or something equally absurd. Idiots.

Are we not just saying they can't come ashore before they say they aren't coming ashore? Face saving type thing.

Maybe they're afraid of being jailed... 😂

The CM favourite "doomed if you do and doomed if you do not", likely applies here.

The decision to close homes seemed at the time to be at some odds with the line of 'living with it' which I understand some people interpreted as no further mitigations. Perhaps some relatives though did want their loved ones protected.

I hear there were those who felt that an approach of  'just let it rip' and see what happens was a risk too far.

I know nothing about modelling but just how did you try and take into accounts peoples behaviour when they have to act against their better judgement say. Be interested to know please.

If you're a cruise liner requiring negative tests before boarding, you aren't going to want to suddenly let people run around willy nilly where it is very prevalent.
