Have we just totally forgotten about genomics now ?

Delta is potentially worse for kids and the unvaccinated then there is Delta+, Lambda from Peru and Epsilon from California and Pakistan.

Of our 888 active cases and our 4k closed which variant are we presently battling ? None of this I understand but its important stuff for public health to be aware and planning for.

Or are we still waiting for the Kent variant to be sequenced in Liverpool :)

Genomics would mostly have been useful for contact tracing (i know i know) and as they've given up on that they've probably given up on everything else too. You are probably safe to assume that all our cases are delta, as that is the prevalent strain throughout europe (most of the world really). It also doesn't really matter that much, as there has yet to be a variant that is not susceptible to the vaccines. Still, that's why people who are calling for all testing to be dropped are wrong, a watchful eye should certainly be kept, and if you are conducting genomic testing then at least you are contributing to the global understanding (assuming the results are submitted to the right place and not held up by Ashford and paperwork).

Also, 'delta is potentially worse for kids' is very very disputable, things remain somewhat unclear on that front. The US are getting themselves in a flap about kids and theres a lot of anecdotal stuff floating about, which means that some of the stories that'll be in the press the next couple of months are going to be factually challenging.

Doomers are going to doom.

Good to read there's plenty of optimism amongst the scientific community about how the virus will evolve for humanity, though how long it'll be before it transforms into a less serious threat to the vulnerable is anyone's guess. The historical angle on its emergence makes for interesting reading...

Leave the satire.

If we start back down the genomics rabbit hole it's never ending. There will always be variants, mutated strains and scare stories. As an island it should be business as usual and leave the Greek alphabet's in the past where they belong.

Oh and leave the kids out of it. They need their innocence preserving throughout this, they have suffered enough with the lockdowns and school closures.

Every positive PCR is still sent to Liverpool.  It was either Dr Ewart at a recent briefing or DA on Manx Radio a couple of weeks ago said they are all Delta.

Not that it matters.  Stuff all we can do different if a new variant arrives we just have to crack on any way and please stop testing and stressing.
