Ramseyboi
Adam on the manninline claiming we are turning cruises away that were due to be here this week? Surely we aren’t that backwards.

How much was lost during the lockdown due to a lack of cruise ships?

Just open the borders to everyone. Absolute madness keeping certain groups of people out now

How much was lost during the lockdown due to a lack of cruise ships? Who cares? It’s just an indication of how stupid our restrictions are. As an aside this is a brand new liner on its first voyage. Full of wealthy people who could have had a nice first impression of the island of treated properly and some of whom might have come back on holiday or even relocated here. Instead they will have had an announcement that Craggy island still isn’t welcoming visitors despite been riddled with COVID, just in case one of them has it.
The Old Git
5 minutes ago, cissolt said: What value do cruise ships actually bring? Not a lot. Done a few Fred Olsen cruises and generally spent bugger all ashore. Bolette isn’t a brand new ship either. Olsen sold off two old ships and replaced them with two second hand ships. Boris Johnson
It is a fallacy that cruise ships are full of wealthy people. Right up to the 1980s I would say they were but now they are a modern Butlins on sea. I really don't know why we are chasing their custom.

The organised trips bring a lot of business for the coach operators, museums, cafes & attractions like Laxey wheel, trains etc
Danoo
It's not so much the fact we are turning away a few thousand people spending enough for a coffee and a cake but the confirmation that we are still as backward as the outside world envisages we are. You really couldn't make it up .

Itsmeee
I really don’t see the point in any border restrictions at this stage. COVID is in the community, everyone who wants to be double vaccinated has been and the hospital is coping. The last administration has kicked the final opening decision into the long grass for the next lot to deal with and meanwhile we have illogical border policies. When is a good time? When everyone is double vaxxed + booster? Double vaxxed + booster + next year’s booster? Someone will always find a reason why we should keep restrictions.
Whiskey
Agreed - also the whole some kids have to isolate/test and some kids don’t thing is stupid. Either control borders or don’t, but this halfway stuff is pointless.
TheTeapot
Oh look! Quote “the margin of benefit is considered too small to support universal vaccination of healthy 12 to 15-year-olds at this time” https://www.theguardian.com/society/2021/sep/03/uk-rules-out-covid-vaccinations-for-children This should send some loons to space.
