The organised trips bring a lot of business for the coach operators, museums, cafes & attractions like Laxey wheel, trains etc

As I  said, not big spenders or types you would want to move here,

Scallys and Chavs - Is that what  we are chasing as tourists now?

ETA  How many coach  operators, museums or cafes in laxey do we have?

Is it really worth spending £80 million to chase that "business"?

Or will it keep an office full of CS employed trying  to justify it for 5 years minimum?

It does seem to be a justification for keeping a whole department full of people in tourism.

Article on Israel response to increasing cases, 3rd jabs due to waning protection from vaccinations after 5/6 months, UK will no doubt follow suit for over 50s in due course

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-58432776

There's very little actual evidence of waning immunity. Israel, which set off at a blinding rate vaccinating, got to around 70% of adults and havent really pushed it much higher. So there are still loads of people there with no immunity, Jabbing the ones who've already had a jab again, now, is a waste of time and effort. Go jab the arabs.

More to do with creating extra roles for people to swan about looking important and coming up with big, expensive plans.  The only people who benefit are the cruise operators, as others have said these people spend very little directly (the whole point of going on a cruise is that everything is paid for).

We’ve just sent 4m to Australia, why them & not Palestine or Africa, who knows?

According to the article the data shows 3rd dose does massively boost protection, if you believe the data of course

Maybe you should also wonder what are the super-rich Arab countries doing for the palestinians and the Africans?

Who cares?  It’s just an indication of how stupid our restrictions are.

As an aside this is a brand new liner on its first voyage.  Full of wealthy people who could have had a nice first impression of the island of treated properly and some of whom might have come back on holiday or even relocated here.

Instead they will have had an announcement that Craggy island still isn’t welcoming visitors despite been riddled with COVID, just in case one of them has it.

I really don’t see the point in any border restrictions at this stage. COVID is in the community, everyone who wants to be double vaccinated has been and the hospital is coping. The last administration has kicked the final opening decision into the long grass for the next lot to deal with and meanwhile we have illogical border policies. When is a good time? When everyone is double vaxxed + booster? Double vaxxed + booster + next year’s booster? Someone will always find a reason why we should keep restrictions.

Agreed. The border restrictions are achieving nothing at all. We are at equilibrium with the sister isles.

Well they’re keeping a few more government employees in work, issuing & declining exemptions, checking vaccinations paperwork at ports etc etc

Why the plateau at 70%? Palestinians? Strange religious sects for whom the vaccines aren’t Kosher?
