IOM Covid removing restrictions

I really do wonder what Lawrie Hoopers understanding of 'the nature of the virus' is, and what exactly he has seen since the emergence of the delta variant combined with mass vaccination that makes him think returning to contract tracing is in any way a wise use of resources.

Looks like we've got another Ashford on our hands.

Manx radio we’re interviewing some people in the street & one person said we should have a strict lockdown with a few others saying make masks mandatory

Another was saying that there should be stricter border restrictions.   These people all seem to have one thing in common  - the older generation, probably in receipt of a pension so why should they give a flying f*ck for the economy?

Meanwhile the working part of the GMP are at work and couldn't be interviewed. They said just crack on as is with personal choice.

exactly,  and anyone who had this sentiment when asked was never quoted in the media.

Just now, offshoremanxman said:

They don’t want to let the contact tracing people go even though most of them are sat there doing bugger all. It’s some small persons empire they don’t want to disband. That’s all it is.

I'm not sure that's true. They didn't recruit specialists, they moved people about a bit but they've mostly gone back to their normal jobs is my understanding. Also, they haven't been tracing since July.

My issue is that with that simple statement about the 'nature of the virus' our health minister has demonstrated that he doesn't understand it at all.

He’s been given words to read. It’s not like he knows anything about it is it? And they did recruit quite a few people into that team. I was talking to one not long ago who was basically doing sod all for most of the time.

He said it at 10pm at night on twitter, he won't be going off a script there. Contact tracing is a key part of disease control, we should have people trained to be able to undertake it, get a measles outbreak they'll be on it. No need to contact trace a cold virus everyone has been vaccinated against. It's just playing to the gallery unfortunately. A bigger impact will be achieved by speeding up the boosters and reaching out to adults who have yet to be convinced.

People really need to get out of 2020 thinking.

What, apart from the media, fuels people's anxiety and paranoia? Even in light of what we now know about transmissibility, the vaccines, precautionary measures, etc., some people remain unquestionably fearful.

Who is it they don't trust?

Science? Government? Themselves? Others? A combination of those, perhaps.

There is an element of 'information overload' in all of this. With the abundance of conflicting information via mainstream and social media, reports from accredited 'scientific' sources saying one thing then another, it's little wonder we have a minority panicked into believing the covid bogeyman lurks just around the corner poised to strike.

But does this social anxiety serve a purpose in a bigger picture? Are they the foil to those who clamour and bray that our borders should just open up as once was, thus allowing the virus to rip and be damned? The 'doomsayers' feel that their opinion is just as valid, that their message is at this stage collectively, that we cannot afford to be too relaxed about this virus, given that we are still in the middle of a pandemic.

If this Island experiences another potentially-unmanageable outbreak and resulting lockdown, they'll all be saying, 'we-told-you-so'.

Search the hashtag #plagueisland on Twitter and you'll literally be balls deep in the fucking halfwits.

Led by illuminati such as Steve Burrows & John Wardle, championed by ex-local rozzer Dudley Butt & whipped into a jizz filled frenzy by the seemingly menopausal Glover.

It's a smorgasbord of wrist slashing depressive tripe.

And people wonder why Dr Glover thinks there are misogynists posting here? And it's not just the one person who posted this misogynistic statement, but also the thirteen* people who liked, thanked or laughed at it.

*ironic really... talk about covens! 😄

What about the ones quoting it?

I heard this too. The impression i got was that more people said there should be no masks or lockdown. You people really need to learn to live with other people having an opinion. Stop being so partizan about it. It is actually embarrassing to witness

That is all fine until such point as these minority of nutters get their way and people are told they must wear masks or are legally stopped from earning and offered no government support again.

They need to be ignored and told to look after themselves.

So what you are implying is that "these minority of nutters" are endowed with the power to influence both the science and the state. Really?

They need reassuring and not endure the subjective ridicule promulgated by insufferable dolts such as yourself.
