Only 24% of South Africans are double vaxed.

Their death rates must be off the charts with this new variant.

Poor fuckers.

Similar population to the U.K. (maybe 5 million less) yet only half the COVID mortality rate.

Health service questionable & 25% vaccinated.

Yet the new variant is headline news.

Sake.

Reckon the "questionable" health service might have an impact on official statistics for mortality rate?

"The SAMRC estimates South Africa’s excess death number at 238,949 during the pandemic, compared with an official Covid-19 death toll of 78,377. The country’s case fatality rate is 3%." (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-08-18/deaths-data-shows-80-of-south-africans-may-have-had-covid)

Even using the 78k figure I'm not sure how you work out that that's lower than the UK mortality rate? UK rate of 10mil infections, 144k deaths vs SA rate of 3mil infections, ~80k deaths?

The South African Health Minister has said there is no evidence that it evades the vaccines at this stage.

Not that it will change Dr Doom and their Merry Men.

Chris Witty has also referred to the alarmist warmings as simply speculation as the variant has only spread in very small numbers.

Until hetty appears at the lectern to inform me that this variant is called omicron, and it's called omicron because we name these things after letters of the greek alphabet, then i'm going to reserve judgement. There's just not enough information as yet

The Belgium case with omicron was an unvaccinated young woman returning from South Africa.

ETA: now reported she has never been to South Africa 🤷‍♂️

Yes, but nobody cares! It is Little Jimmy on a power trip. That is all.

Every day, globally, around 150,000 people die. Around 6,000 of those have Covid mentioned on their death certificate. Meanwhile, 25,000 die of hunger and starvation.

The world needs to get a grip!
