Politics (government rather than Tynwald) and inertia seems to be driving some of this so far not science. We cannot live in a bubble, a bubble is completely unsustainable, even if you create a bubble you can’t live in it forever. And actually the bubble mentality is a psychologically damaging environment to create as it creates fear of outsiders and all sorts of other strange and insular behaviours and nobody can move on from it. The optional 7 day testing is going to reveal much more of this and people just need to get used to it as the virus is circulating, there is no vaccine, and so locking yourself away from the world isn’t a cure as we’ll go bankrupt in the meantime waiting for it to go away.

Meanwhile Jersey have tested c92000 with just 13 active cases,

Total tests

91292

Pending test results

1387

Total negative tests

89529

Total confirmed positive cases

375

Known active cases

13

It may be just a coincidence but there is a queue at the Grandstand testing area since the case was announced yesterday. I haven't seen that since April!

I’d like to know how many tests are repeat tests. I’d wager every time there’s a scare it’s largely the same hypochondriac bell ends racing up there to take a swab.

No coincidence. (There's a lot at the testing station today)

As of today anyone who has completed 7 days self-isolation can now pay £50 for a test. If it returns negative tomorrow they are released from self-isolation.

There are still caveats however. You can't socialise in pubs, restaurants and so forth but you can shop for essentials and even go back to work if your role is not customer facing.

It’s actually a serious point & the information would be beneficial in assessing our testing regime.

How many of these tests are key workers, how many as a result of 111 calls, how many via the newly created 7 day requirement through travel.

Is it unreasonable for the public to expect this level of detail?

Well there’s only 24 awaiting results and 0 awaiting tests so can’t be that busy at site

I’m sure the info is gathered and will be being used to assess.

Whether the public would understand, or  is qualified to interpret, the raw numbers, is another question entirely.

But yes, the info should be freely available, along with the number of weekly arrivals broken down by category, returning patient, returning resident ( further broken down by repatriation or temporary off island ), compassionate, new resident, key worker, exemption certificate, guernsey air corridor

Thx John.

Everything is done behind lock & key.

This is an unprecedented situation, perhaps the biggest crisis the Island has ever faced.

There are as yet unknown people (so called medical experts amongst others no doubt) playing fast & loose with peoples lives, seemingly unaccountable.

The Manx public have a right to know who is advising our Government, what they are saying & information surrounding testing & arrivals.

Last night's London Evening Standard headline story has Hancock hopeful for a new year vaccine. That lady's and gentleman appears to be the extent of HM Govt's exit strategy... I hope he's right or else we all are going to have a long and frustrating 2021. And in other news, the young are being young. Who would have guessed.

That does seem to be what they are pinning their Hope's on. What if it never comes?

You mention young people but the fact is young fit healthy people arent affected by this virus yet they are being treated the same as someone who is elderly and catching it could kill them. This must be the first time in history healthy fit people are being quarantined.

My family have bit the bullet and booked a trip off the island to see grandparents. Very envious of them
