Yes it's stupid and callous nonsense.  From Malta Today:

,147 new COVID-19 cases were registered on Tuesday, figures published by the Health Ministry show.

One new death was registered in the last 24-hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 480.

Active cases stand at 14,121 after 285 recoveries were registered.

There are currently 124 coronavirus patients being cared for at Mater Dei Hospital, of which five are in the ITU.

It's worth saying we have seen this sort of "Ignore Mr Covid and he'll go away" stuff from Malta  for about 18 months now and it's not working, even in their own limited economic terms.   No matter how much the Chamber of Commerce urges, people are unwilling to go out and spend more if they are feeling ill and the elderly and vulnerable are not really keen to go out and kill themselves so someone else can maintain their profit margins.  Funny that.

I wonder if there has been more socialising and that since they legalised cannabis

Furthermore, the virus (dominated by the Omicron variant) is becoming endemic due to two equally important factors, namely, vaccine immunity plus natural immunity. We, therefore, beat the virus thanks to both vaccine and natural immunity, and finally herd immunity is in sight.

Well as the author does not appear to understand what endemic means as I don't believe is is anything to do with vaccine or herd immunity it does encourage me to read the rest of the article

But they do seem to understand the damage caused by keeping healthy people away from work.

When Barclays bank  announce reduced hours until Jan 31st it just isn't sustainable. If that is the impact on them then small businesses are absolutely stuffed.

Just a precursor to permanent services reduction under Covid, however the staff are not healthy if infected with Covid & their elderly customers wouldn’t thank them for passing it o them

Unlike you apparently, I do not think there is a particular right or wrong answer. It is a very difficult balancing act between maintaining business and the economy and health care and one that is probably impossible to get right. Last time I looked 6 NHS trusts had declared critical incidents because of the affects of Covid. I think there 223 such trusts in the UK so not a huge number. The hospital in Swindon is reporting an increase in numbers of 81% in numbers in their hospital due to Covid since 23 December 37 to 67. Nobles has just seen the first increase in numbers from 7 to 10 but fortunately none in ICU.

If you have had a heart attack and  stuck in a queue of 15 ambulances waiting outside a full A&E because of the impact of Covid or worse, waiting for one of those ambulances and paramedics to respond to your 999 call I don't you will care a jot bank branches are shutting 2 hours earlier a day.

Noticed a lot of the Cafes etc are closed or only barely functional at the moment due to staff shortages.

Yes lots of things closed, 450 new cases today & 2750 active so not much reductions as forecast by some posters

No, you've been following these pages Thommo. Do you need to ask ? Is it because you agree with him...

Well eventually the numbers will come down...

He has had some valid points.  The real problem now is impact of the isolation, not the virus.

The numbers will come down. The numbers have probably always been there just people are now testing and logging their lft whereas up till a week or 2 ago they weren't.

Those figures are likely to rise in the next week too. The exact opposite of the Ramsey Boi's arrogant prediction. Has he been banned yet ?

I don't think that anybody can wisely make any predictions with any level of certainty. Either for an increase or decrease in number. We just have to hope they will go down ASAP and that we do not get  too many in hospital.

The one comment I would make is that with the schools back it has been a lot more civilised on here today.
