If it puts your mind at ease I think it was Wrighty that confirmed that covid deaths were in single figures.

I didn’t. But it is a fact that not all of the 70 covid deaths died from covid - some tested positive but died of other things.

@momo65 Omicron covid really isn’t that bad, especially if you’re vaxxed (which I assume you are?). My mother’s had it and barely noticed and virtually nobody is ending up seriously ill with it. I’ve had worse colds over the years. I hope you’re getting out and about and living life normally, not hiding away - you shouldn’t let covid concern you much any more, aside from simple sensible precautions, which you were probably taking anyway before March 2020.

If you got hit by the proverbial bus and happened to have had covid during the previous 28 days hey presto another covid statistic!

No it wouldn't.  The death figures on the Isle of Man are "those where COVID-19 is mentioned anywhere within the death certificate".  And this has always been the case.  This has been pointed out on here numerous times and the only people who don't know this are those who automatically assume we should copy everything from England, no matter how daft.  Are you sure you're not a senior civil servant?

From analysis of English death certificate we know that where Covid was listed on them, it was shown as the main cause of death in about 90% of cases.  Of course even in the other 10% it's likely that the person might not have died then if they hadn't caught it , though they clearly had other serious health problems.

Incidentally we also know from the English figures that the 28-day rule underestimates the number of deaths from Covid.

And if you died from lung cancer having never been less than a mile from a cigarette, or other tobacco product, hey presto you have died from a “smoking related illness”

Not quite

  • A person’s risk of developing cancer depends on many factors, including age, genetics, and exposure to risk factors (including some potentially avoidable lifestyle factors).
  • 1 in 13 UK males and 1 in 15 UK females will be diagnosed with lung cancer in their lifetime.
  • 79% of lung cancer cases in the UK are preventable.
  • 72% of lung cancer cases in the UK are caused by smoking.
  • 5% of lung cancer cases in the UK are caused by ionising radiation.
  • 13% of lung cancer cases in the UK are caused by workplace exposures.
  • 8% of lung cancer cases in the UK are caused by air pollution.

Though it's difficult to imagine there are many people who have "never been less than a mile from a cigarette" especially as age is also a major factor in developing lung cancer (44%) of all new lung cancer cases in the UK are diagnosed in people aged 75 and over

I usually respect your views Rodger and you're obviously an intelligent guy but you do seem to be getting sucked into the doom coven!

According to the USEPA, Radon-induced cancer is responsible for most deaths from lung cancer in non-smokers and the second biggest cause of lung cancer overall.

Test levels of Radon presence inside random homes on the Isle of Man, taken in 2000, were higher than acceptable levels for nuclear workers.

A short and Interesting article...
